Our jeweller friend did show me a TAG (£ 4,600 I think). It was a nice looking watch but the face was far to big for my slender wrist. The mechanism did work superbly but when all said and done it did only tell my the time and I already knew what date it was ;)

You'd need to unlucky or stupid to need a new watch every year Stoop so your figures don't cut the mustard. Your time piece will date eventually like my mum's gold watch which works perfectly, a million years on but it looks too old fashioned to wear, so it lies in my jewellery box.
:D

Slightly off topic, but I would appreciate Stoop's watch much more if I could stop him in Guvens and ask what time it was :)

If you wear a watch 24/7 365 days and pay £50 for it my guess is one year would be about right - if you were lucky. Anyway my figures more than stack up as it seems to have cost me nothing if I wanted to sell it. How much would a £50 watch be worth in 12 years time? Would the face still be unblemished like my sapphire crystal one? I guess not.

You won't convince me that a cheap watch is as good as a TAG - sorry they just ain't. As for 'dating' - they just don't.

I agree but they go around £400 to £500 without much trouble. Still not bad after 12 years use and being able to wear it as well :)

There are many things you can buy cheaper and there's no problem. There are some things you have to spend money on and shouldn't waste your money buying a cheap version. Instant coffee being one  :)
