Am I too polite to say NO!

Having lived in fethiye for 4 years now,I have a big grouch. Why is it that relatives think that they can come over and stay with you, treating our home as a hotel,expect us to taxi them about, pick them up at the airport, feed them 3 meals a day, clean up after them,etc etc at no cost to them.....but when you go on a visit to the U.K. they are too busy to invite you for a meal, and you have to take a taxi to and from the airport? Are My wife and I being too polite to say no to them when they want to visit, or are we just a pair of mugs?

It is true that people coming to visit you in Turkey seem to think you take up responsibility for them when they walk out of the arrivals hall at Dalaman. I don't recall anyone waiting for us at Gatwick or Edinburgh airport when we visited the UK.

It's not just Turkey.
Our family in Oz have did the same thing to my parents for years now.  On their last visit a year or two ago I put it over as politely as possible that they're pensioners now and live on a budget:D  Tesco was duly visted and the fridge filled.
You need to be straight from the off, freeloaders are freeloaders family or not!

Got to be told, if any of my lot come across all shopping and meals out etc is split accordingly and they are politely told not to run the air-con 24/7, dont mind doing the odd breakfast as long as its cereal and toast etc. but then again im a practising Aberdonian.

I believe it is the custom in Turkey for visitors to be treated to everything. It is unfortunate for Turks who live in seaside areas and have large extended families that descend on them during the summer months. Perhaps your family think that you have adopted the customs of the country and don't want to offend you    .  Of course, the custom is different in the UK. When in Rome ?

My sister phoned yesterday to say she was coming over in August. My wife told her that as there was only 2 days between her and her hubbys arrival and the departure of another relative she would have to rent the apartment next door to us at the reduced rate our neighbour wants. Needless to say, she called me back to say that she wouldn't be coming, as she had found a cheap holiday on the net.
