Calis and Area - Member's Photographs

A section entirely for member's photographs of the area. Specifically to annoy members who aren't there and won't be for some time

Job done Andy ;)

Andy, it looks like they've got the dragline upstream of the bridge. Is the river going to be navigable further up stream or is it just a cosmretic tidy up[?] 8). Last year they had it up the right hand branch as far up as violet but that was more about flow easing and flood reduction 8)
Great photos by the way 8)

Looks like a major tidy up Ken cleared the banks on both sides and dredged the canal both sides of the bridge, how far up they are going Im not sure but an awful lot of clearing work going on all the canals in the area.

March & April were for me the best months of life in Calis - emerging from the storms and cold nights of winter and feeling the sun on your back, and before the punishing everyday heat of summer. Everything waking up - from nature itself to human activity, slowly livening up a little. If there was a time of year I missed it would be now. But there isn't :D

Really great set of pictures, captures the area and subject beautifully.

As to the work on the banks of the drainage canals etc.  I'm not an expert but surely it can't be good to simply pull up all the reeds, apart from looking attractive, as they must be an important part of giving stability strength to the canal banks?  Or perhaps they will grow quicker than I think?

An evocative set of pictures , particularly of the market fresh veg and fruits. Makes me hanker for a Turkish Breakfast.Think I will nip to Tesco for the makings
There is a turkish supermarket near to us which offers a sit down Mancunianised Turkish breakfast in its cafe. But they only serve it with a fried egg.Not quite the same.
