As some might know, one of my interests is the development of Fethiye, and how quickly it became the place we all know and love today. I have many, many photographs and engraving prints (some hundreds of years old) that sit in a filing cabinet and some have never been seen on the internet. Old prints made from 19th century engravings are certainly part of it, but my main interest is more recent.
Here is a photo I took in May this year (2012) of the fabulous sarcophagus in the centrum. I will give a link later to show you that it might be along the pavement from Migros today, but was once most definitely in the sea. The sarcophagus is almost lost in progress today - a backdrop of harbour side restaurants, hotels, parked cars in every conceivable area, a very choked urban scene indeed:
Of course the question is, has it always been like this...?
And
the
answer
is
definitely
......NO!
This will be the next page of my
Old Fethiye section at
www.fethiye.co.uk and you can see there our sarcophagus very definitely not on land. I have many more to add, hope you liked this one...
