Stan,

I take your point. In mitigation I can only say that  I was enjoying a reather nice bottle of red wine which is something I cannot do in Oman. Mayhaps a bit too much?
Anyway, I cannot agree with your saying that I am being sesquipedalian. Though I have no doubt though you will trawl through all my previous posts to find examples of my using long, multi-syllabled words but then again I try not to use the "---" symbols either.

Nice of you to pick up on that Keith  :)
I am sure somebody will look it up, and provide the clue as to the exact meaning.
Now, here is the twist.
Will the first absolutely exact answer in modern parlance come from (a) any of the respondents to the original post other than the originator or (b) the apparently academically gifted originator himself?

I will gift 50tl to Bozalan school project in the name of the person who gives the correct answer in modern parlance. My bet is not on an Academic!

It is quite disturbing that an example of sesquipedalian is in fact sesquipedalian.

Farmer,

From the Oxford Dictionary:

sesquipedalian Pronunciation: /ˌsɛskwɪpɪˈdeɪlɪən/

Definition of sesquipedalian

 adjective
formal
(of a word) polysyllabic; long: sesquipedalian surnames

characterized by long words; long-winded: the sesquipedalian prose of scientific journals

Origin:

mid 17th century: from Latin sesquipedalis 'a foot and a half long', from sesqui- (see sesqui-) + pes, ped-'foot'

Well done. Now that you've mastered "copy & paste" I'm sure you're going to have a whale of a time.

KKOB,

Having to C&P constantly when replying to students with samples of their mistakes especially when they attemp to write their Projects in English, one gets used to doing it.
