Any information how the cat came to the shelter ? Might be important info for people missing their pets.

We were told she was handed in by a Turkish lady saying she no longer wanted her, we advertised her as missing widely both in English and Turkish in shops and vets but got no response at all.

This case shows that also reporting missing pets to the shelter might be an important issue and that they check there the missing list properly whenever a cat or dog arrives somehow. Maybe Animal Aid can arrange and announce this.

The centre was the first place we went with a photo of her and our phone and email details written out in Turkish and English,we had homed her from the centre 12 months previously so they knew the cat.

What a wonderful ending to this story. You must have been beside yourself when she went missing. Its the not knowing what's happened to your pets when they disappear that causes the most grief.Well done everyone involved in this happy ending.

Back down to earth this morning Izzy is booked in to be micro chipped on Saturday, she is as happy as can be not too unhappy about being kept indoors, the other three cats and the two dogs are treating her as if theyve never seen her before. We always felt she had been stolen and now think we were correct, she,s quite a handful they did well to keep her so long!!!Happy Days !

That is possibly almost the point Libra might be talking about. In this case we have a lovely happy ending but your cat was missing, you got it from the shelter, the shelter know you and your cat, the shelter have your cat, but it took a stranger to put you and your cat together again...I agree with Libra, a system to try and safeguard against lost pets slipping through the fingers a second time would make good sense...?

I am not criticising the shelter, they do a fabulous job - just highlighting a possibility for future reunions  :)
