Changing Sterling to Lira in Fethiye
« on: April 13, 2013, 11:13:27 AM »
Following on from the clothes shop "Change money man" discussion, as we have done the "avoid" half it might be useful for new visitors to the area to have a few recommendations for good places to change money in Fethiye centre.

I can kick off with the yellow change shop on the corner of the one way road and the main road parallel to the harbour (Bank Street  ;) ) I am fairly sure it is called Dikmen Change, and rates are decent, it's an entirely uneventful experience and a funny name to boot.

What more could you ask for :D

We normally withdraw sterling at the HSBC from our nationwide account and exchange it at Finans bank.  Usually a slightly better rate but if not changing much not worth waiting if a long Q , so then we use the change office on the corner same as you

We have used the change shop on the corner of the first entrance to Paspatur, at the "take your life in your hands" pedestrian crossing.  Always gives a receipt and we have never had a problem.
We also change money with Sedat at Zumrut Jewellery in Calis who gives a better rate than the official change shop.. However the main danger here is the temptation to buy some jewellery!!!
The strangest place we changed money was at Calis Market when we forgot to bring our money.  I had a £20.00 note in my bag and our favourite pancake cafe man called us over, we said we where going back for our money as we only had a £20.00 note.  He asked us what the current exchange rate was, we told him and he changed it for us... Great service.  A reason we always go back to this cafe.

Dikmen gets my vote! Used many times and never a problem (apart from trying to stifle the laughs)

Agreed - the yellow change shop - does it have a large photo of old calis on the wall inside?

Lovely man in Onur Jewellers in Calis.  Used him many times and found him very honest.

You can usually get a slightly better rate at Dikmen the more you have to change.

There's a rude joke there somewhere ;-)
