Supermarkets
« on: July 08, 2017, 23:49:12 PM »
Hello all,
Arriving in calis on August 5th, first time in the area, we have a villa in calis near the cemetery Mezarlik ( I think, not had the address yet)! Can anyone recommend a decent supermarket or grocery store for our first day for us to stock up on basics ( including a bit of booze)  :) we don't drive!
Many thanks x

You can get the bus (on the hour and half past) which will take you to Bim, very reasonable for basics. Just a little walk up from there is Kipa (owned by Tesco) where you can get everything plus alcholol.

Kipa is no longer owned by Tesco, but still offers a good range of supermarket products (including  alcohol). There is also Migros on the same road with has a similar range of products....

We also stay near the cemetery and go to the small Migros near the pharmacy by the dolphinless roundabout. (You will soon know where this is.) It's about a 10-15 minute walk and has everything you need. It's right by the main strip where the bars and restaurants are.

There are a lot of Supermarkets in Calis, but none near the Cemetery (we stay there too)  and if you are doing a big shop I would get a taxi to, say, Kipa the biggest Supermarket and then get one back.  There is a taxi rank at  Kipa. Taxis are cheap..   There is also a taxi rank about 5-10 minutes walk from the Cemetery.  With the Cemetery in front of you at the top of Cevdet Oskay  Cadesi,. walk up the hill keep right and then left  at the bottom of the hill walk along passing a very smart  apartment complex next to the cemetery.  This is Ibrahim Gul Cadessi.  Walk on over the bridge and straight ahead.  At the end of the road on the left is a taxi rank, if there is no taxi there sit and wait.  There is also a phone.   At this rank you will see a shop with lots of carpets out to dry, so turn left and there is a market (shop) and next to it is a very good butcher shop where you can also get hot chickens.  Across the road is the Cahide Bar a good place for something to eat, nice bar and friendly staff.
There is also a small market (shop) within sight of the Cemetery it is well signposted it is called Canceg Market and the shop is very handy for bread, water and daily requirements. With the cemetery at your back walk straight ahead down(Cedvet Oskay Cadesi)  the road with the Canceg Market signs. The market is at the bottom of the road on the left. It opens early in the morning and closes around 8.30-9.00pm at night.
If you are renting a Villa ask the owner to leave your a started pack of food for when you arrive.
