Title: Just for Fun (but with a serious point) - Sales Appointments
Post by: Scunner on April 17, 2014, 22:40:24 PM
I have a couple of "prospects" who I really need to get in front of. Up here I find it much easier than my London & South East days to see people, but one or two are so far impossible. You call, you get their voicemail - and they never call back. You email, they totally ignore you  :)

There's a lot of people on CBF with great sales experience - so please help me out here! What can you do to get an appointment when they totally ignore you again and again?

Genuine and/or amusing suggestions welcome!

Warning them that your colleague Gordon is in their area and is going to call in   ;)

Or alternatively, Steph is in their area and.................................

I think the only thing you can do is try a cold call.  If they don't answer your messages, there is nothing else left do to.  I was a Sales Rep before I was an Antiques Dealer, company car etc.,  so I have some experience in getting to see people.

Yeah I agree Jacqui - although our company works on rule 1: No cold calling (which I totally disagree with).

You send them a really amusing email that will make them laugh and instantly warm to you so that they can't wait to meet you. You, of all people will not find this difficult.

Conducting business doesn't always have to be stuffy.

(This once worked for me, by the way. However, the 'amusing' bit was a complete accident and everything to do with not having spellcheck switched on my email .....)

Forget 'em. They obviously don't want to see or speak to you.

Look at your contacts on LinkedIn and see who you're connected to who's connected to someone who's connected to them. (Rinse & repeat - Six Degrees of Separation theory.)
Then you can request an introduction that passes through the chain; I've done this before and it worked.

Get yourself a tin of that soup that your namesakes make and wrap your message around it requesting a meet face to face - spoons provided ! Message in a bottle scenario - got to raise a smile....  ;)

Scunner struggles with high heels Jacqui, what with his bunions and ect.      ;)

Worth a try though.

I think Scunner's going to get the wrong kind of appointments if he dresses like that !

Now, Highlander might be able to carry-off that look.  ;)

I used to buy before I went on the road and I hated and rarely saw cold callers. I had a few elusive prospects and I would try to find out if they had an assistant or a parallel to make an appointment with. This worked more than once. Never go over their heads.

Forget 'em. They obviously don't want to see or speak to you.

They may genuinely think that, but I genuinely think they are wrong  :)

15 minutes to find that out, got to be worth the gamble?

I used to enjoy dealing with thick skinned salesmen.  ;)

Thick is the person who thinks nobody else can help him.
