Title: Latest news on Cement Factory
Post by: Firo on December 01, 2007, 14:15:35 PM
Well after the good news we received a few weeks ago we had some bad news this week.
Halil Uran has not given up the fight (just as we expected) and this week he managed to somehow get someone in the Enviroment Dept in Mugla to give him permission to build on 2 hectares. How this was achieved we can only assume  ;) :o...he must have friends in high places as he has completly cut the Fethiye officials out of the loop now and gone above them to Mugla and Ankara.
We have had a meeting with the Forestry manager in Fethiye and he says that it is not possible to build on the site whether he owns some land or not as it is surrounded by Forestry land.
So the fight continues as we will not give up either and we are planning to travel to Mugla to face the person directly and ask the awkward questions that need answering..
To this end we have composed a letter that we are mass mailing to The British Ambassador in Ankara, 40 sent already, and if anyone else wants to help nby sending it please contact me and I will email them a copy to print out and send.
Many thanks
Fi

To all the above...I cannot pick up your email addresses until you email me direct. You do this by going into my profile (just hit on my user name) then hit Send email. By doing this I can get your email addresses and send you the letter.
I have emailed some of you direct through CBF asking you to reply but as of todays date no one has replied.
It's important that we do this quickly as 40+ letters have already been sent to the Ambassador.
Many thanks
Fi

I've sent some test emails and the system seems fine, but I too have emailed a couple of forum members and didn't get a reply.

Can a few of you email me via my profile, and post a note in this thread to say you did so  :)

Thanks

OK I have spotted the problem [:o]

I have asked for the host to make changes to allow member to member private emails back. Changes were made to prevent nasty folk from spamming using our email addresses (changes made by the host, not me). Hopefully we'll be back to normal today.

In the meantime, Fi (or Eric, can you get separate CBF member accounts so we know who we are talking to!!!) if you send the document to me I will sort out a temporary (or maybe permanent) way of distributing this document.

Please send it to keith@ then the CB website address  ;)

Bit confused now, about what he is building, is it still the factory we are talking about, or is he going to build houses etc.

He is building or trying to build a mini cement factory and a Lime kiln...nothing has ever been mentioned about houses.
Everyone says that it is not possible to build an industrial site in the forestry but as he owns 2 hectares of land (surrounded by forestry) that is his argument and he also has friends in VERY high places in the Turkish government.
One rule for us and another rule for those connected you could say [:(!]:(

This is an interesting but hardly surprising twist. All I have ever said on these threads (and please remember I have lived in Uzumlu for nearly 2 years) is that if the Turks want a factory (or a kiln or a housing development)they will get a factory, or a kiln or a housing development. We may not like it and we may want to fight it but at the end of the day this is their country, their rules and their way of doing business. Very sad but true.

Not always the case chris

Quoted from the Okcular website www.okcular.net Without consultation with the villagers the company had obtained licenses that were a death sentence to many of our orchards, our beautiful valley and our way of life. With determination and guidance from professionals we have succeeded in saving Kocadere Valley, our farms and our livlihoods.

Projects are being put together to repair some of the damage done when an access road was smashed into the entrance of Kocadere. Native trees, bought from grants and donations will be planted by local children who will learn a little more about the importance of loving and caring for our environment. Already Mother Nature is repairing some of the insult done to her in the name of money, it will take time, but time is a great healer.

Dear Friar Tuck, thank you for introducing me to that wonderful site. Turkey at its best and a very positive outcome for their village. However, I still stand by what I say and this latest twist only reinforces my view. My Dad used to say to me 'it's not what you know, it's who you know'. Regretably, as Firo says 'he has friends in very high places'.

Even though I am against the building of a cement factory, I think people would be wise not to emphasize about a certain person having friends in Very High Places, this sort of talk is libellous, unless you have written evidence that it is being done.

Otherwise you could find yourself in courtroom.

It does not matter what one may think is being done, without rock-solid evidence it does not mean a thing.

No one knows who reads these forums.
