Water shortages

We had a few problems with water, but like others went to the springs on the side of the road to fill the large containers up, like the locals do, or have  a shower etc when we knew there was water.

As already said we are visitors in Turkey, they have lived here long before we all decided to invade their country, and the farmers are not the ones wasting water, they are using it as already said to grow food, but a lot of Brits who are living there are wasting it to over water the gardens and then pour water over the patios and pool areas, why not do like I do and fill up a bucket and mop the patio and pool area saves a lot of water and leaves some to shower etc in, if your loo is not fitted with a small flush or large flush (incase you have done more then a little wee wee) have one fitted it saves a lot of water.

The one thing I love living in Uzumlu is living the locals way of life, letting life go by not rushing for anyone or anything and going for walks sometimes meeting up with a herd of goats and sheep, who always seem to find us Brits very interesting and want to investigate who we are.

And if you cannot have a shower jump in the swimming pool.

Maybe if Turkey charged us the same water rates as in the UK, they could do all the changes required.

But then if they did you would complain about that as well I suppose.

But then if you don't want to adapt to the way of life and how things are, the best thing to do is Put Your House On The Market and Sell Up and Move Back To The UK.

Mind you might have a problem now that you have stated how bad the water and electric.

Well, so far lynx has actually said:

0 introductions
1 complaint about the power supply in Uzumlu
1 complaint about the water supply in Uzumlu
1 complaint about the number of Brits moving to Uzumlu attracting burglars
0 other posts

I assume you mean he is saying there is too much development in Uzumlu for the available services Teresa, we can see that too. The MAIN thing that comes across however is the complete negativity of his contributions thus far, and his readiness to blame those who use the water for basic everyday survival for the problem. Sorry, but it sounds like a case of "Now I've moved here, we don't need any others to do the same" situation.

No guns, we are civilised people on here  ;)

Maureen our water has cost us about £35 so far - and the first bill was last year! Dont know who paid our bills before that but it wasnt us! Expect this year to be about the same and will pay in September. You dont expect it to go off when its costing £3 a month - good grief! :o

Its funny how the 'new' people moan about the water, the electric etc etc. and advise that nobody else comes here, but if 'they' had'nt come we wouldnt have the problems we have now!!!!!

The water problems here in Uzumlu are now at crisis point. Much of the village is experiencing up to a week with no water at all. The belediye tells us that it is a pipe problem. However we have this 'pipe problem' every single summer and the 'problem' last for weeks. Every year the problem is more serious and last for longer and longer periods. This 'pipe problem' is just not true as sometimes the water comes on late at night at around midnight but is off again when we get up at 6am. Don't tell us that this 'pipe problem' was being worked on until midnight. We are convinced that someone further up the line is tapping into the pipes to water their crops/trees. We know this is done as we have seen it happen. Whilst we can all fully understand the need for any farmer to water his crops it is unacceptable that everyone else is left without even a few hours water every day. Water is more important than electricity. We get fed up not being able to have a shower for days - or worse still not being able to flush a toilet. Having a reserve water tank only helps if the water comes back on again allowing this reserve tank to refill. Often the reserve tanks are empty for days due to no water coming in to enable the refill. Once again it is 100% down to the number of houses having been built here by greedy builders who don't give a damn about the lack of basis utilities and the belediye who constantly give building permission to these builders. It's about bloody time that the belediye stopped allowing any more properties to be built and all the builders with properties unsold the ALL others under construction now, made to pay to upgrade the water and electricity supplies. We only need a few more properties to be sold and be occupied (even as just a summer home)and NONE of us will get any water or electricity at all.
ANYONE THINKING OF BUYING A HOUSE AND MOVING TO UZUMLU - THINK AGAIN. It will be YEARS before the utilities in this village are anywhere near adequate to cope with the properties which are already occupied - let alone additional properties.
