We felt it seemed as if the whole house moved and was quite frightening. The only ones we seem to feel in Uzumlu are over 4 on the richter scale. No damage though thank goodness.

OMG!!!! Just purchased our villa in Uzumlu. Moving out permenantly in January. Never even thought about earthquakes!!!!!
What do you mean "there must be a big one coming soon" - hope our villa is still standing and that the pool is not full of rocks!!!!
Seriously hope that no-one has sufferred any damage, it is also a worrying thought that they happen so frequently. Is this normal for the area?

Sue,

Fethiye suffered devastating earthquakes in 1856, and 1957, so hopefully the next "biggie" won't be until 2057  ;)

There has been 11 tremors in the last 24 hours.  Check out the website below for further details (Cameli)

Gosh Sue  :o[?]   I can't believe you hadn't thought about this :)  Hope you've got a guarantee from your builder that he has built to Earthquake regulations and that you have earthquake insurance set up and ready.....just in case.

If the pool starts rippling and there is no-one in it, it a good indication that the plates are having a little jiggle !  And when you get out of bed and you feel all weird and off balance, it isn't always down the the Raki you consumed the night before  :)

Thanks for that. I new about the faults but never realised how close together the tremors are.  :o
Yes we have earthquake insurance and as its a resale we have bought fingers crossed it was built to earthquake standard  ;)
Just going to the docs for 6 months supply of Valium for when the Raki wears off. ;):D

Sue, as a long-term Uzumlu resident said to us about Brits who buy in Turkey - we all come 'eyes wide shut'!!! How right he was.
