Urantas taken to court
« on: April 02, 2008, 20:16:23 PM »
Yesterday the solicitor, acting on the population of Uzumlus behalf, filed the papers to stop the cement factory being built. They feel strongly that we can prove, that by allowing this factory to be built, it will be breaking a clearly defined law, and we have the proof that will corroberate this, that we have a winnable case.
As soon as there is any other news I will let you all know and please watch this forum for events we are planning to fund raise to cover the solicitors fees.
Many thanks
Fi

There are now 2 court cases regarding the stone quarry and proposed cement factory.
The first case was opened in Mugla a few weeks ago and is against the Mugla area's decision that an 'environmental impact report' is not needed for the Urantas company to build a lime kiln.
Tommorrow a specialist and the lawyer are coming to Uzumlu to review the situation on the ground and provide specialist reports for the court.

The second and bigger case was recently started and is disputing that the 'Environmental Impact Report' issued from Ankara (based on local forestry environment and health dept reports) is correct when it states they see no adverse environmental impacts if a cement factory were to be proposed!
We know the local offices provided reports to that effect even though some of the individuals concerned know full well their contents were/are inaccurate.
This 2nd. case already has a substantial reports including local maps with the report drawn up by a University professor, proving that Olive groves and other food crops are within prohibited distances for even a stone quarry (dust making industrial process) to operate.  Should we be so lucky to get that stopped as well!

If these cases succeed their effects will be to withdraw permissions for the factories to be built.  This, if it happens, should have disastrous economic consequences for the Urantas company - let us hope!  If only they had chosen an appropriate setting.
We are of course all for promoting local businesses and things like cement factories In the Right Places!
