What I don't understand is, why is it 1 litre of duty free allowed on returning from Meis but more at Dalaman/Marmaris? It's the same country - you don't get different allowances at Gatwick compared with Birmingham.

We enjoy the trip as we can have pork chop and chips (mmmmmmmmm) on the Island for lunch, buy duty free stuff (it is cheaper!), buy pork chops and ham to bring home (don't tell customs though) and have a good day out. So far not had bad weather (touch wood).
