Title: Airport Assist
Post by: WillNewby on August 18, 2019, 18:08:08 PM
At long last, after a few years, we are returning to Calis for a long holiday, that is me, my wife and mother in law.

Now me and mum have walking difficulties and have arranged through Thomas Cook for assistance at Bristol Airport.
OCS were very professional and we now expect a smooth passage to the aircraft.

However, when trying to book the same service at Dalaman I was shocked to receive a reply to my enquiry which I quote below:

"Thank you for your Airport Assistance Inquiry. We are pleased to offer you Meet and Assist Arrival Service at Dalaman Airport (DLM). The service includes:

ON ARRIVAL

·         Meeting the passengers with a name board at the end of the airbridge or at the entrance to the terminal (depending on aircraft parking position

·         Escorting through Passport Control Formalities

·         Escorting to baggage claim and help with the luggage.

·         Escorting to the arrival hall or to the passengers' means of transportation.

The price of Meet and Assist Arrival Service is USD 250.00 for 2 passengers, 3% credit charges applicable

If you wish to book the service, we will be happy to assist you."

$250 dollars +3% or near £210 for a service given free in the UK.

The company is called MUrgency  - www.AirportAssistbyMUrgency.com

Needless to say we will not require their service! Does anyone else offer this service free in Dalaman?

The info page for disabled passengers is showing a '404 error' at the moment. Ask them via their contact page.

Thanks for the link. I was able to send a message, now let's see if they reply : :)

Also, is there anywhere to hire a mobility scooter in Calis/Fethiye?

Can't Thomas Cook arrange assistance at Dalaman through their ground handler? Always done like this before.

Will there are plenty of places to hire a mobility scooter but unfortunately there are limits to where it can be used without risking a fine if using on a pedestrian path like the promenade or on the new cycle lanes.

However, there is apparently somewhere near the hospital (Devlet I think) where you can rent a proper disability scooter. I don't know the details and it may be a bit more expensive than the ones available for rent in resort, but these you can I believe use on the promenade.

I booked assistance with Thomas cook for my 86 year old mother she can only walk about 10 yards .
So far so good outward journey went very well  . They say it’s booked on the return flight from Dalaman back to Stansted. Just hopping it will be as good going home ?

This service should be free

Over the last few years we have usually booked with EasyJet travelling from Manchester with my mum in law who can walk but not the long distances often involved at the airport and she has trouble with steps. She sometimes travels alone and we have also used this service via other airlines.

We add meet and assist to the booking (either online or by phone)which adds it for both outward and return flights at no cost. You are asked about capabilities and whether you have your own wheelchair.
We book in at the Meet and Greet section after checking in in Manchester where we pick up a wheelchair to proceed to security . We push the chair with us but you can ask a staff member to push the chair and if you are alone they will take you to check in if needed. She is met by a wheelchair and a man at Dalaman.

On the return journey we speak to a member of staff after passing through the scanners and a man and a wheelchair arrive to take us quickly though check in and passport control and directly to the gate and then later on to the plane at the appropriate time. She is again met off the plane in Manchester with a wheelchair and a pusher.

We have never experienced any problems.

I have just posted on another thread, we too have used special assistance a number of times for my mom who has walking problems and copd. we have never had a problem at Dalaman before but this year they have been a complete nightmare.
It does make me wander if this service is being misused and its becoming overstretched.   :-\ :-\
