Title: New Plans For The "Ghost Village"

From The Fethiye Times Monday 12th October 2009

Kaya Koy Ghost Village Could be Miniature Turkey

The Regional Council in Mugla this week voted in favour of a project submitted by Fethiye Chamber of Commerce and Industry to restore the old Kayaköy village stone houses and other buildings.

Not before time we hear you cry - but this will be a restoration with a definite difference.

The village will be divided between the 81 provinces in Turkey (each province should receive 10 - 15 houses they say) and the individual provinces will be responsible for restoring ‘their' houses and then using them to exhibit what life is like in the province involved.

When it is finished it will be like a ‘miniature Turkey'.

It's a great idea but we wonder who will get the churches?

Certainly sounds like a great idea to me but will it materialise?

or do you think many people would prefer it as it is?

My plans for the Mugla Province houses are to include

1. At least one restaurant doing All-Day Full-English Breakfasts.

2 A Karaoke Bar showing English Premier League Football.

3 An Emlak's Office.

4 Clothes shops selling fake Christian Dior, Kalvin Klein, Prada Etc.

5 A Spice Stall.

6 A Tattoo Parlour.

7 Para-Gliding, Boat Trips, Motorbike, Quad-Bike and Jeep Hire shop.

8 A Pancake Stall.

9 A Tasco Express, AZDA, Alda or Notto shop.

10 Turkish Delight, Evil Eye Mugs and Teatowel shop.

11 A Chineses and Indian Restaurant

12 The Churches could easily be turned into night-clubs with bars installed that are specially reinforced to enable all staff and patrons to dance on them.

Not that I'm at all cynical about this of course :D 8) ;) 8):D

I think it would make an excellent crazy golf course, maybe the largest one in the world!:D

Also it could become a giant obstacle course for quadbike racing ;)

KKOB.
If it does go to your plan make sure they leave the church windows out. That way you will all be able to hear the music blaring away until 5 am.

could turn it into youth hostel with quad bike track, with the old tradition of burning a few christians, which would make a great fun day out for all.

What about a poledancing club, ski lift,Legoland, wonkey donkey rides, and illuminations that work in between the power cuts, cheese rolling contests. There could be a two-tier pricing system, with brits paying 50% less than anyone else.   :) :) :)

Our trip to Kaya was the highlight of my recent holiday. I was blown away with the ghost village. It had a bigger impact on me then the pyramids in Egypt. The high church was amazing with the blue colours still showing through. I will definately be back next time as a minor injury hindered me from doing all I wanted to do this time.  :)

the bigger impact wasn't a rock falling on your foot by any chance, hence the minor injury:D

When you took us for a walk around the village of Kaya we saw some really interesting things like the bread oven and the olive press .They are falling down due to lack of maintenance. It is a shame that these are not being preserved as areas of historic interest as well.Soon nothing will exist to show the history of the village.

I think you will find there will be 10-15 houses restored showing the history of the local area and hopefully including the collectables you just mentioned and a few others ;)
