Great pics. Thank you for sharing them. I love to see old and new pics, side by side.

I'm hoping to buy in Ovacik too.

My Missus has memories, not photographs, of Ovacik from 1993 - even bigger difference.

Believe it was an interesting place back then John F, locals tell us of when the only "road" to Olu and Ovacik was over the mountain track from Fethiye via Kaya.

What has happened in the ten years between '03 and '13 that made you like it then and love it now?

Not a trap, genuinely interested  :)

Thanks for the interest Keith. You! Trap? Noooo.
We  are from the Lakes so the mountains were a big plus Fethiye a market town built on agriculture and tourism much as Kendal is, and the weather was so important. Still working back then looked' at Spain said no. Wanted somewhere for retirement not investment not rental, thank goodness, though we did buy at the right time. There was about four agents at that time though lots of "uncles" with land.

Since retirement we have spent the 6 months from April each year now we do 4 months each year. The area has just grown on us, we mean all the areas round and about, take them for what they are warts and all. Love to travel near and far and it is so easy to do and affordable.  Food, locals, customs, language accept them all 100%.

Could go on but to answer your question it takes time to go from like to love and that is how it is for us. As for Ovacik its our home other peoples opinions are quite irrelevant. How much longer? Who knows. ???

Maybe you would agree, for anyone starting out now, research and then research the research then check again.and only trust your wife if money is involved.   ;)  8)

Have posted this before, Feb 2002, added to the tread for those interested. Taken from just past the yell.

I said 'not a trap' because I tend to be seen as anti-Ovacik and Hisaronu (which I am not, I've been around long enough to know different people are after different things) - my interest was not in the area specifically but the fact that you treasure it more now than ten years ago.

I'm rather fond of Calis, but I'd give anything to have a holiday there in 2003 again  :)

Well I'm very much taking heart from what you have said Ovacik2.

Of the 7 properties we're viewing in a couple of weeks, 5 are in Ovacik.   :)

Thanks Keith, hope you understood what we were meaning. One thing for sure is the help and information taken from CBF and its members posts.

We have had our villa in Ovacik since 2004 ... and it has changed over the years but not considerably in our opinion and for us it has still kept its charm. I know you don't all agree but we love it especially the very welcome mountain breeze!

Think Scunner said it as it should be different people like different things.

The Mountain Breeze. Mountain air mixed with sea breeze, yes and the dust, much less since the ashfelt roads have  been laid. The few degree cooler than sea level, Great sunsets, fabulous mountain views, Close to Fethiye, Calis, Olu Deniz, Hisaronu, Faralya, Kabak. Love any or not they are there on the doorstep if you or family young or old want them. Eating establishments to suit most. Great to see his last couple of years some good and inexpensive Turkish restaurant/lokanta making it. One place near the roundabout at Hisaronu makes superb Gozleme we mean superb. The Turkish families that we have known since 2002/3 still here still sharing. The echo down the valley of the mosque calling is calming................
We find it is a quiet and mostly peaceful place to live.
Downers! Barking dogs you can hear the stress in their bark. Fast taxi drivers like anywhere in the world. Hotel noise we don't have the right to criticise as most hotels were here in Ovacik when we came.

I appreciate these posts. Thank you, guys.

My son is currently winging his way to Fethiye as I type and got his first viewings of the Ovacik properties tomorrow morning.
