Title: buying grapes
Post by: mac2010 on February 13, 2014, 09:02:25 AM
Is there any where I can buy grapes from  to make wine DIY style and when would be the best time to do so. This is my first attempt so I do not have any idea about what ones are good.  :)Any advice would be appreciated.

They are pretty cheap on the market when we go out in the early summer. Any red grape will do I expect but I'm sure there are those who have a preferred grape for their wine. I'm not sure of the varieties available to be honest.

Hi A lot of people just throw grapes away or let them rot on the vine,We binned 3 barrow loads last year.So just give a shout on here late summer and you should get a free supply.

I'd suggest the above too and also have a scout round the neighbourhood for vines.

Up in the Kaya Valley there are 'wild' vines that are absolutely groaning with delicious grapes every year. Most of them rot on the vine or end-up as goat food.

You could also Google wine making, home made wine, types of wine grapes ect.
Good luck with it and let us know how you do with it. It's got to taste as good
as some i've bought out there.          ;)

I've made several lots of wine from Uzumlu grapes and basically the better tasting grapes make better tasting wine. Grapes are ripe and readily available at the end of August. I find that this is also the best time to start your fermentation as the hot weather gets it off to a good start. Bring a decent wine or brewers yeast from the UK for a better result. It's advisable to work with several small batches, the 5Lt water bottles from BIM are ideal. 5 kilos of grapes will produce 5 Lt of wine Your wine will be ready for January. Drink and enjoy

Sorry not sure if you are asking me. My posting is only a rough guideline to an easy way to make wine. The internet is full of recipes but I stick with the simplest ones. If you want to contact me directly feel free.
