Title: Ovacik in March
Post by: Menthol on March 23, 2014, 16:57:09 PM
My daughter chilling on the wall outside our house

The views directly in front of us with the stunning sunsets and the view to the left of us with Babadag showing a smidgen of snow on its peak still.

Wonderful views - can you see the sea from where you are?

We will never tire of these views. And in the picture below, although perhaps not very clear, the sea is the horizon on the left.

We so need a telescope for viewing from up here. Apart from admiring the amazing scenery and stars we might be able to see what on earth is going on half way up Babadag on what appears to be an inaccessible part of the mountain. Through my Mum's woefully inadequate opera glasses, we can make out a JCB ......

Funnily enough, I searched for several years to get one of those coin operated telescopes you get at the seaside etc to put on our roof terrace. I never found one for sale.

It does seem a bit strange seeing lights and fires halfway up babadag though, whatever can they be doing?
They are lovely views from yours ,it,s amazing how far you can see, even without a telescope..love them :-)

Scunner,  what was that app you once mentioned that tells you which star/planet is which when you point your ipad at it?  Was it Starwalk?

Menthol, it's a great app and I bet the stars up there are fantastic to look at.

Going to have to price up a telescope over here but furnishing the house comes first.

We are already very happy here, sue mac   :)

Yes all very odd up Babadag Bernie, very odd.

Oh wow, Bluwise that sounds like a brilliant app!

Scunner. Though it is a bit mean of you to charge your family for using it!!!!!!

A Turkish gentleman in the hardware shop in Hisaronu today told us that they are building a railway up to the top of Babadag. I tried to se if he had his tongue wedged in his cheek but apparently not ..... Make of that what you will. It is also reported in the Sun Express Newspaper. I have not read this paper before but it seems like many a provincial paper in the UK.

Below is a rather poor shot of the bit of the mountain they are working on

Not sure about a railway Menthol but there was approval to build a cable car up t'mountain a few years back. It will probably be a project like the Esen ski resort or the Dalamen golf course. Much talked about for years before anything is done.

Menthol - one of our neighbours was involved in the engineering feasibility study for the cable car, now they are looking for someone to finance it - he is not very hopeful.

Fair enough, but there's something going on up there that requires a JCB and a fair bit of noise .....

Is it you? :D

You mean am I a JCB making a lot of noise up a mountain?

If I was a paranoid, middle aged woman with an inclination to post late at night after a few bevvies, I might accuse you of having a dig and being personal.

But I don't drink.

I think all the JCB activity is something to do with the paragliding area being opened up for all year round use.

Well mac2010 that is certainly a more credible theory than some I have heard  :)

I did research these and found them fully refurbished for £2500 each. Didn't actually buy them as they were far above the clients budget but they are out there.

Being very self indulgent for which I apologise, but I am still in awe of the views from the house. I'm also a bit of a weather watcher and the changing skies this month have been my idea of heaven.

Today the cloud is very low over Ovacik and Kaya

They reached the top of the mountain a few days ago with the new road to what I have been told is a second jump off point for the para gliders.
We had two weeks of avalanche type noises when the rubble was constantly rolling down the mountainside. And the work has left quite a scar on the side of Babadag.
