We were really looking forward to another meal at the Mangal tonight after a good one earlier in the week... It has closed down and we have been told never to re open... Another landlord problem... wait for more to follow suit on the seafront..
-
Crazy - was always busy when we passed. :(
-
OMG, although not one we went to after a previous bad experience, I am sorry to see this happening to Mangal. It's always busy and a very prominent restaurant on the main street. :(
-
Might be a great place for Volkan and Jo to start up again, certainly has the space, but then again they may have already have other ideas in place.
-
Met Volkan this week and he said he would be back in Calis on Thursday (yesterday) as he had finished in Icmeler and he an Jo hoped to look around for a new place. So, fingers crossed for them both.
-
What a shame one of the first places we ever went to and has been a bit of an institution for the late night kebab when stumbling home
-
What a shame - one of our favourites with decent food and lovely staff. The Ice Cream man was hilarious to watch. Hope they manage to re-open somewhere close.
-
The landlords here are a nightmare.. As Volkan fell foul of one last year he would have to be careful taking on this place.. A great shame.. It has been there as long as I remember...

Oh so we can expect some posts from him then, telling us all he is going to do for us, what a man of virtue, whilst forgetting that he never thanked us the last time!! >:( >:(

Nope across the road to Frank Canons for me, better kebabs, better price and they have never tried to tuck me up like Mangal did!!
-
18 of us ate at the Mangol Wedensday, realy enjoyed the food, no complaints, service was realy good,
very surprised they closed down early.
-
passed the mangal today. does not look like it CLOSED DOWN for the season. no furniture or drinks behind the bar. time will tell.

You have to remember that members use CBF for different purposes - the fact that the owner of the now defunct VOJOs stopped posting on CBF once their place closed may be purely coincidental.

It is sad to see another of the old places going.. like I said watch this space regarding the prom.
-
A hint at inside information there Mercury? ;)
-
watch this space regarding the prom.
It wont just be the prom in Calis - property owners arent daft, most rental contracts are in EUR or USD. Unfortunately, the bar and restaurant owners charge in TL and over the past twelve months the amount of lira they need to find to pay the rent has increased by nearly 28% - and thats before you take into account the higher prices for raw ingredients etc.
We all know who to thank for this situation...

Is it Ronnie Pickering ?
-
In your parallel universe, probably.

Forgive me for stating the obvious but doesn't no furniture or drinks behind the bar suggest it HAS closed for the season? How does what you saw make it look like evidence that it hasn't?
-
We passed today day and lookes very much like it has closed down. We did see what seemed to be a meeting going on in there

Maybe Jack meant it looked like it had closed down for good, not just for the season...
-
Ah I see! Sorry Jack
-
According to a reliable source (FB ;D ) they were setting up for business again last night?
-
Yes they are. Got this from a very reliable source from someone not on FB... seems they paid the rent...
..
-
I do hope so - would miss Mangal if they did close.
-
in oceana tonight and the mangal was open. not as many seats as normal. anyone?
-
Anyone ?
What does that mean :(
-
It was open tonight but had less tables than normal and was dead when passed at 10.30.
-
I would have thought that most restaurants would be " dead" at 10.30.
-
Dead 8.30 - 10 too.
-
Dead as in no sign of any customers and only a couple of staff members, whereas the other restaurants all had crowds still due to the rugby. Was still lively elsewhere on the strip.
-
Ah my apologies I had forgotten the time difference for the rugby. :-[
-
Saw the nice man who works outside The Mangal who is now working outside Serkul 2.. only the kebab place is open now.. They have gone bankrupt..
-
They've certainly been through the mangal
-
So the reports weren't wrung after all.
-
haven't we Squeezed enough out of this topic?
-
Lovely to see you Alan.. hope we will see u again when we get back from Icmeler.
-
Thanks Ann
