I'm awfully glad I didn't post my limerick (had a little difficulty rhyming anything with "Kim Jong - un" or "North Korea" ;) - I was just polishing it up a bit before sending.
Maybe I'd have received an early morning visit - or not allowed to leave next time I'm in Fethiye.
Frightening really, for the leader of an aspiring EU member nation.

I have friends, very longstanding good friends in Fethiye who tell me they can't give an opinion to me on email or on Facebook Messenger. They are certainly not easily scared but they believe what they write might be intercepted/monitored so don't write it.

The Turkish consulate in Rotterdam has infuriated Dutch MPs by calling on Turkish groups in the Netherlands to inform it of insults against President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

I have just returned from Fethiye this week. One of my quite vocal friends has to report to the police station every time there is a visit from any of the presidents party members. This is to stop him, and others protesting.
The majority of others believe they are being listened to or watched via their mobile phones and are really scared to even discuss what is reported online.
Almost seems like a dictatorship forming.

They are watching and listening to everything and you don't know whom you can trust.
Last week a friend and I were sitting in Hello Cafe having a tea and a chat. As ususal the topic was politics and the mess this country has become. When we started talking, we both looked over our shoulders to make sure that nobody was close enough to listen into our conversation.
How sad is it that you do something like that unconsciously :(

And all because of one man.

Oh well, add another two to the growing list of journalist locked up in Turkey - although I do question their logic in republishing a cartoon that some say insults the prophet Muhammad, in predominantly muslim country.
Two Turkish journalists sentenced to two years in jail for Charlie Hebdo cover

I was threatened on Facebook by a Turkish man who objected strongly to me saying something to the effect that Erdogan was like a dog with a bone when he got his heart set on something.. This bloke said that I was not allowed to Insult his President by calling him a dog... He screen shot it and advised me to leave the country as I would soon be arrested.. A friend of his also Turkish tried explaining that it was a British saying but he wasn't having it.. I am fully expecting getting arrested next time I set foot on Turkish soil.
