I cannot open the link.
What is a "gesture egg".
As a kid I painted faces on them but I feel that is not what is meant.
-
I can’t open it either KKOB. Thought it was maybe something I was doing wrong, but apparently not....,!
-
Same here..

Cadbury no longer sell Easter Eggs. So as not to offend non-christians they are now marketed as Gesture Eggs. No doubt it's also a ploy to enable them to market them throughout the year.

I will continue to buy Easter Eggs, and make an appropriate gesture to Cadbury's P C Products.
-
"Not to offend the non- christians".
Who could these be, I wonder?
Let's ban meat and therefore not offend Hindus.
Ban bacon and not offend Jews. (I'd rather that than ban foreskins, please).
Ban alcohol and not offend the Muslims.
Ban electricity and not offend the Amish.
Will we be closing the churches next?
Ban the crucifix?
I'll never, ever be allowed to be cross again. I'll have to be angry or miffed.
Churches. Crucifixes. Cross. Christian.
There's only a few "C" words I can think of that are left and they include words to describe Cadbury.
What a crock of crap.
Of course, the owners of Cadbury are American and they don't care.
They don't really "get" Easter over there. It's not even a public holiday.
Christmas next. Winterval or whatever it is to become.
I feel a bit miffed and I shoudn't because I'm a blooming athiest!
........and I like Cadbury's chocolate, especially the Bourneville Plain.
My principles are not strong enopugh to exclude Cadbury chocolate from my diet but I am miffed at their decision.
-
But is it true that they are not selling Easter Eggs ?
-
Christmas next. Winterval or whatever it is to become.
Have you been living in a cupboard?
There's no longer a Christmas !
It's the Festive Season during which we are 'encouraged' to offer Seasons Greetings.
-
Maybe they are concerned about offending non-Christians. The truth is, the non-Christians nearly always couldn’t give a toss.
-
Christmas next. Winterval or whatever it is to become.
But at least we still call it Christmas with A Christmas Tree and Christmas presents.
Will the Cadbury's Christmas Selection Box be event neutral? They celebrate Christmas in America and I don't know if they would have the courage (if such is the word) to exclude the word from their advertising/packaging etc. The Americans wouldn't stand for it.
-
So as not to offend non-christians
Many "non-christians" I know celebrate Easter, Christmas etc with far more vigour than most Christians I know...

Ah, here he is ! ^^^^^^ My favourite
chukter teuchter. ;)

I have spent a lot of time watching a repeat of the snow queen pantomime on CBeebies over christmas. It's only just clicked that was why they said happy winter festival at the end..I thought it was because it was set in some snowy location, not because we can't say christmas. I don't get how you can live in another country and expect them to change their traditions.
-
They don't
-
To be honest, I don't buy Easter Eggs....I buy a Terrys chocolate orange. IMHO far better value and no reference to 'Holidays or Easter'.!

Actually not strictly true...

Actually, I know. 'Cos it's on Facebook. More fake news.
-
The only surprising thing about this story is that it was the Daily Star that spread these lies instead of the usual hate-monger, the Daily Mail. Perhaps the Mail are content with all that twaddle they peddled years ago about local authorities banning Christmas.
-
What exactly have chocolate eggs to do with Christianity?
There were several posts on Facebook blaming Muslims for the term ‘Happy Holidays’, inferring that ‘Happy Christmas’ would offend them. Of course it wouldn’t! My Muslim doctor has a tree in his office, and wished me Merry Christmas. I also note that some restaurants in Turkey served Christmas dinner.
The Happy Holidays thing started because the Jewish festival of Hanukkah is around the same time.

What exactly have chocolate eggs to do with Christianity?
Exactly the same as Christmas has to do with the alleged birth of a child called Jesus.
-
I think it’s a fertility thing, like rabbits!!
-
I must have ducked out of the biology lesson when they explained about rabbits laying chocolate eggs. ;)
-
Eggs and rabbits (hares originaly) are all pre christian pagan fertility symbols....

Only if you were, or are still in, the greetings card business.

Pretty much punches a great hole through the "pagan" element, doesn't it?
-
The word Easter comes from the name Eostre, the Teutonic Goddess of Spring and fertility.
Eggs, of course represent fertility, and one of the claims to fame of rabbits is ‘to breed like rabbits’.
I doubt Jesus, on rising from the dead on Easter Sunday commanded his followers to eat chocolate eggs, or indeed tell their children a bunny brought them!
