There is a small super market on the road we like to call textile alley ( the road at the top of the hill from the dolmus station at Fethiye).
There is no name on this shop but it is next door to a shop called "Bur time".
Basically you will be acosted by a very friendly gentleman with white hair you loves the English etc etc, you will then be steered into the shop where you will be cornered and offered tea, home made lace etc whilst this is going on the white haired chap will be dousing you in lemon cologne and playing withyour arms and shoulders, then he will demand 20 YTL for the massage!
Steer clear of this place it is pure intimidation - luckily he thought better of doing little more than snarling at me and the wife - I snarled back.
A great shame this is the only time we have come across this in the 10 years we have been in this area.
Do yourselves a favour give this place a wide birth.
-
Yes - we got had by this gent too. Was he well pi..ed when you met him? Carl had the massage under extreme protest from both of us. He also brought out his 'home made wine' which he insisted we try.
Then he tried to get us to pay £10 for Carls' massage & £20 for the very expensive bottle of wine which neither of us could drink.
It's virtually impossible to get away from him & you don't like to be rude but you have to. In the end we flung 10Million at him as he was saying we had cheated him.
He goes from totally charming to an absolute nightmare.
It's on the right hand side coming out of Fethiye. I suggest everyone walk on the left hand side & walk very fast as he will come after you wanting to talk English as he loves the English people & language so much & will drag you in.
Linda

sounds like he needs a group of the cbf boys to go round and give him a slap!!
-
I know exactly where you mean, the problem is that most people trek up and down that road several times if you are trying to furnish a place, this guy seems to attract people who need advice and then he rips them off as described. We now just walk past and never take up his hand shake because once hold of your hand, he won't let go.
The only other rip off like this I have seen happens near to his place where you see the signs to the rock toombs. Children will offer to show you the way up and guide you into the garden of a scruffy house where you will get the massage treatment or be ripped off for soft drinks.
Rimms
-
He also lurks outside the mosque offering to guide you and has also been seen doing shoeshine.
He claims to like English but not like Germans so in response to English?.... it might be interesting to respond.. Nein ich bin Deutch.
Then he might like Germans not English!
Take the advice avoid him like the plague or be rude if you have to. :)
-
Yes, we've been there too. Turn left at the top and he's along on the right. We keep well clear of him, he's seems to be always there and always out of his head !!
-
We've nbeen mugged by him too - 10 TL for one of those lemon colonge stuff. Larry said it was the cheapest mugging he's had!
-
Been there, done that and had the bl***y massage!!! He got us 2 years ago as we were going up to the back road to walk to Kaya Koyu. Did he give you all the speil about having 4 kids or then maybe it was 6? By the end of the massage he was the father of vitually every kid in Fethiye!!!!!!! Didn't like the 10TL we gave him either and quickly kicked us out of the shop.
Lolly x
-
Glad it wasn't just me then, didn't seem p***ed, had nine kids but then got p***ed off when I offered him 3YTL for the massage - said he was insulted so I said not wishing to offend him I took it back, it was then he growled but I can growl louder (but not quite as loud as a brown shaggy bear though!)
Still you live and learn he is a minority.
-
It wouldn't happen to be this character would it? Pictured here with an unsuspecting Mrs sandgrounder 3 yrs ago. We got bitten by him and his mate, the fat shopkeeper!!

-
The very same man!!
You know where he is and now you know what he looks like, please avoid!
-
Hi yes we got collared as well, had the worst apple tea ever, and as for the massage it was the pits, said he had been doing massages for twenty years, that was why he had long fingers, then he asked us to make him a donation, which we did,we gave him two TL and did a runner,we walk on the other side of the road and look the other way now.
-
that's him lol
-
Yes - that's the one. Well done Russ & Jan.
It was at least 9 children at first BUT I think he had got up to 12 or was it 16 at the end?
His massage was so bad that I even tried to teach him how to do a hand massage properly. He then reckoned he was a top class masseur - goodness help his clients if he did actually do massages.
If you thought the apple tea was bad you really don't want to know how the £20 bottle of wine tasted. Rancid horse p... comes to mind.
Linda
-
Thats the one..........................
We ought to have t-shirts with his mugshot on it. 'Fethiye's most wanted con artist'
Lolly x
-
Yes i have seen him around! I have also seen him in Calis doing shoe shines! He gave me n my friend an arm massage once, but didnt ask us to pay for it!!! :O
Alan, you didnt pay that 20 ytl did you!!?
Rach xx
-
Hey Russ
I've just noticed his expensive wine bottle prop in front of the water.
Did you get stung with that too? I DO wonder what it is filled with?
We will be reciting the Welsh National Anthem if we do happen to get waylaid again. That should totally confuse him hopefully.
Linda
-
Rach - no did not pay him 20YTL, offred him 3 he said that was an insult so I took it back off him and left, thats when he started growling!!!
-
Hi Linda
Yes we bought the wine lol and some turkish delight just to get out of there. He is on jans hit list now lol
He is one nasty pushy man but he wont get us again 8)
-
Im going to walk past this shop next week just for the experience - I will not be going in no matter how much he tries to persuade me!!
Jenny.x.
-
Good luck jenny. You go girl
-
It will be my challenge for the week!
I will beat this man!
Jenny.x.
-
The same thing happened to us! I must admit I lost my cool, and I think they were taken aback! This man does not operate soley on his own. We were approached by a woman in her late 30's, and then he appeared. Whilst we were being shown all the delights of the shop, another man arrived, and seemed to take no interest in what was going on. When we left the shop, the man in the photo apologised and said he just likes to have some fun! I think threatening him with the police must have done it.

:o
Makes you wonder how these people can get away with this!! I have seen him, seems like he gets around, alot!!
Rach xx:D
-
Anybody got his autograph yet?
-
Maybe we should get t-shirts made with his mug on them saying "Pest" or "con aritist".
I don't think he is harmful just take advantage of gullible tourists - and it looks like we have all been there - now we can say we have got the t-shirt!
Lorraine
-
Lorraine - can't say I see myself as gullible, this bloke is a real pest and if I may say so probably very intimidating to anyone who would not stand up to him, as for not being harmful he was blocking the doorway when we tried to leave demanding money, didn't worry me too much but can't say the wife was too happy! - She thought I was going to be locked after I offered to rearrange his anatomy.
-
When we were last in Turkey in June we came across this man. He tried to befriend us. We were on the other side of the road and he came over to us saying he liked the English etc. However my wife noticed a dolmus driver who had slowed down gesticualte to her to keep moving on. The dolmus driver then engaged the man in conversation which we could not understand but it was a bit loud! This enabled us to walk quite a distance away from him and get away. We realised afterwards the driver of the dolmus was trying to help and protect us, which was very decent of him as we were not even one of his passengers. It was this kindness we prefer to remember. Thankfully having read this read we are glad we didnt go with man and meet his wife but at the time we were not sure as to his intentions or motives. We now know better.
-
We met him last week too! Didn't go into his shop though, so glad now we refused, or we'd have been another pair of mugs lol
Anne
-
Let us all know how you get on Jenny! Sounds like you need to threaten him with the police. And what a nice dolmus driver!
-
Can you order two more t-shirts please - we were there, had the wine, turkish delight, lemon cologne, apple tea, massage, cashew nuts. Met one child (don't know whose or how many others there may be). If he has got 14 kids lets hope he's not training them up - Could the t-shirts have FAGAN written under the picture?
-
How about we turn the tables - a group of us could gather around him and sell him something really crap like a sky TV package, we could charge him the earth then walk away laughing about all the second rate american soaps and comedies he had just paid for!
(No ofence intended to our cousins across the pond - just getting the anger out of my system.
Of course as this would be a group thing all suggestions of a more suitable product to sell him are welcome.
-
Well I must have succeeded in my challenge as I walked along this road and never came across this man! Maybe he was already inside annoying another customer but he didn't make himself known to me. Or maybe I was on the wrong road who knows!
Jenny.x.
-
He is only there for the summer season then moves on, he told us he was mexican along with all the other rubbish, when we got caught Mr Smudge had a little word in his ear and he now avoids us. The shopkeeper who owns the shop in question is a really nice person, have no idea why he lets this low life hang around.
-
Better late than never but only just joined..We met him in october, apple tea wasnt the best, massage was ok but the 60 YTL he wanted from us for the service wasnt!
His command of English seems excellent,he certaintly new what b******ks meant as we left, although we did let him keep the change after buying 20 fags!! Definitely a bloke to avoid for a stress free day
-
Yes we have met this guy. Tony and I have talked to him, on the road you called 'Textile Alley' and his manner and patter was exactly as you descrbed he comes over a lovely man. Tony was really tempted to stop as he only wanted to talk. I to was charmed by him, but we had no idea of the potential, of the situation, till now. I am grateful for the comments on his behaviour, because I plan on returning soon, to do more shopping, on my own. I`le avoid him like the plague.
Many Thanks
Julie and Tony
-
We have to admit that we got done by this guy a couple of years ago. We didn't like to speak about it at the time as we felt really stupid to have been conned in such a way. Yes we had the massage and got offered the hand-made lace, the apple tea and the Turkish Delight by the lady of the shop - never saw the wine though. And yes he had fathered a multitude of children and had numerous offspring and grandchildren to support. Again he wanted 20 million. I think we gave him 10 and fled!
We actually saw him 3 weeks ago outside the mosque doing shoeshine - keep well clear!
-
two tee shirts for us too, couple of years ago we had a massage from him we gave him 10 ytl and pushed our way out of the shop.
-
Last time he spoke to me I pretended I was French and he couldn't speak any !
-
soryy to ask but
why no one goes to police about this???
He has no wright to do this. Also asking for money.
-
he is still there - now hanging around the mosque by the bus station
-
Oh god yes! Got us a couple of years back too, Apple tea massage etc... He wanted 20 mil each, I gave him 10 mil total and of course he was not too happy. Saw him again a few days later and told him not to bother with all the crap because he was a bandit. He apologised and gave us apple tea for free, then he stung us with another scam!
"We have some fresh Turkish Delight, please try some" he said and motioned the woman to get it. She came out with it and we tried it - It was fantastic! So, I thought why not, I went inside and ordered a few boxes to take home for the lads at work. Having chosen what I wanted, he ushered us back outside to sit and finish our apple tea, she brought out the TD boxes a few minutes later, I paid and we left on good terms. Then... I got to work the following week and put out the TD for all to eat - it was crap! (Hard and chewy, probably 2 years old!).
Did not see him at all last year, luckily for him!
PS. He told us he had worked in France for several years, so I guess that's another tall story!
-
omg Rolo lol.
I don't mean to laugh but what a cheeky sod!! I can't believe that!
-
Yep, I was nearly duped by him last year. There was also a rather clingy Dolmus driver also last year but thats another story.
I think we should have a 'Stay away from' forum complete with pics.
-
We got caught last summer but got away by saying i was Australian, walked away an left him very confused.Just say hello cobber
-
Hi everyone
yes thats the man me and my friends got caught too although we ended up paying less. Don,t worry about being rude to this man, no doubt i will be that way again, and i shall go out of my way to be rude.
After we got out we met some other English people and told them to be careful, but they already knew about him and told us if this ever happened again to say that we are going to call the police , apparently we were told, this frightens him and works wonders on him letting you out of the shop.
But best of all don,t go in in the first place. 8)

Hi Sunny and welcome to the Forum. It is normal to introduce yourself in members introductions first. :)

Don't worry Sunny. Welcome to the Forum. A lot of people do this. It is a way of learning how to get around the site! LOL naaah Lolly just get a T-shirt with PARA YOK on in very large letters next to the Union Jack!
-
I saw this man when i was their last week. He was sat on the roads with his shoe shine gear in Fethiye, very quiet indeed and i didnt have and hassle from him at all! :)
-
Got the T shirt!
-
Can't believe he caught us all out with his little scam....
He got us last year... Out came the lemon etc etc... We felt so embarrased and didn't want to be impolite. We thought he was trying to flog the lemon spray so we bought a bottle and some grosseries, to show our appreciation. He then hit us with a 40TL charge for the massages... I didn't want to argue with him since we had our little boy with us. We paid and quickly left.
If anything it's taught us a lesson and we will never get caught out like this again.
If you are thinking of buying a property in Turkey please don't let this influence you... We've been to tuirkey many of times
-
not quite sure what i did then...
In any case... It doesn't happen all the time...
harley
-
oh what a relief to know that we were not the only ones who were mugged by this beast. though it was 2 years ago we still feel sick when we pass near his shop what a disgrace to the turkish people who are helpful and really nice. he is a pig.
I feel a bit better now ive got that of my chest.
-
he is a big con man and I hope that one day he gets what he deserves.
-
I don't think it was his shop ......maybe he just conned the owner as well. Haven't seen him anywhere near there for several months now but he is regularly seen around the big mosque area doing shoe shine, but he does not seem as much in your face as he used to be. :)
-
Saw this man yet again a couple of days ago!!! He was on the corner by the dolmus hassling a couple of people for a shoe shine! I just ducked and ran!!!
-
the authorities here dont like this kind of thing happening because its bad for tourism, maybe we should get together with some kind of joint complaint and perhaps a photo of him and hand it in to the locals mayors and govners ofices am shure they would take action against him.
-
further to my last post i am prepared to make the complaint if i can get a min of 6 people emailing me with thier individual experiances of harrasment, address the letter to the mayor and govner of fethiye and give a brief description of your experiances. there is a pic on here of him i can print out and use.leave the rest to me and am shure the powers that be will take him aside and make shure he is not a neiusance anymore. they really dont like this kind of behaviour.
-
well doesnt seem like anyone is prepared to commit themselves on this subject as to date have had no replies which is a shame as collectively we could stop this guys antics.
-
He isn't up to anything yet stuart lol. Seen him a couple of times this last week or so and all he is doing is shoeshine and looking very subdued. I will keep my eye on him though and if he makes a move back to the small market I'll report him :D
-
He was outside the market one evening last week with his shoeshine kit and although he said hallo there was certainly no hassle. Maybe because living here we do see him regularly. :)
-
He was back sitting outside the shop last week !! We strolled past as he enquired "You Eeeenglish ?? " I shook my head and carried on walking as the cries of " Dutch ?? German ?? French ?? ......." faded into the distance ..........
-
never bothered us just takes one look at hubbie and probably thought twice:D
-
sounds like someone has had a word already...lol
-
Beware - the mongrel is trying it on outside the shop again
-
Offerd me two cammels and a rug for the wife
Now how was I going to get a cammel home: :)
-
not cammels with humps but cammels with filter tips prehaps? ;)
-
lol! When i saw him weeks back he was keeping a low profile it seemed!
-
did your wife get the hump at that offer?
-
My husband and I got caught by this guy last September when we were going up to the tombs and wanted to but some water. He had his sidekick with him who was HUGE and quite scary. We had the tea, turkish delight, lace treatment and despite my protests, after massaging my husband, he continued to give me a massage, lifting my clothes and outting his hands right down the back of my shorts, which I did not want. I offered him 20L and he kicked off saying it was 40L I told him we did not ask for massages, tea etc but ended up giving him 30L just to get away. Very intimidated and quite scared as its a tiny shop. Don't go near it.
-
We had never seen this guy until our last visit, one week ago. But thanks to this Forum we had been made aware of him and avoided any unpleasantness. Thanks everyone.
-
Hes still there up to his old tricks. He will ask "are you English Deutsch Swedish" and try to shake you hand, just reply Chinese or Eskimo and carry on walking. We passed a few times I said I was Apache by this time I think he got the message.
Apologies to any Chinese, Eskimo and Apaches on the forum.
Next time we go out I plan on taking a false hand with me. Oh what fun. I cant wait to shake his hand LOL.
Tony
-
Still there September 2006!!!
-
Hi there Tony please do it. This man is a pest.
Heather
-

-
He has taken to wearing a white cowboy hat, you cant miss him
Rimms
-
Just got back today and a each time we passed on the dolmus you could see he had a couples sitting in there. So seems he's still at it.
-
Hi everybody I'm Sue Chris's other half. Can't believe it we thought we were the only ones, also done by him in September 06. He told us he was married to an English lady for 30 years. He seemed such a nice friendly man. He called us in for apple tea which is quite normal for the Turkish people. Then came the rubbish massage, then he asked for 20ytl each, Chris told him "on your bike" and gave him 5ytl which was far too much for what he had done. We told our Turkish friends and they wanted to sort him out, said he should be reported to their police. They said it gives Turkey a bad name?
-
Hey Guys,
No way!!! me & my friends hired some quad bikes and we broke down infront of his shop, and in no time he was there with a bit of rope so we could pull the other quad. He was nearly forcing apple tea down our necks and dragging us into the shop! I quickly made my excuses and got on the bike on drove off! lucky escape I think....
Emma
-
He was back on his shoe shine stool when i saw him in March .. he just says 'merhaba' everytime he see's me now
-
I say a pat on the back for C.B.F.this creep has been exposed, and well done for posting the photo.
-
What Photo.[?] :)
-
Go back to the first page . should call him gillette.
-
Didn't expect it to be eighteen months ago!:D
-
I met this bloke last november when I was strolling along the street. He was inebriated. He wanted to offer me a drink and I politely refused. Someone poked their head out of a shop and I felt they were telling him to back off. So I got off lightly.
HOWEVER, we got royally caught outside the big mosque when a young chap offered to tell us about the mosque 'for free'. He took us to the window and told us about the mosque. Then persuaded us to accompany him to a small mosque up a side street where we were told in hushed tones about that mosque and asked for money for its upkeep. OK we paid. But then he asked for money to pay for his books as he was a student. He really put us on the spot and we felt conned because he told us he didn't expect money at the beginning. That piece of education cost us about £20. It isn't one of my warmest memories.
-
We were also "educated" about the mosque (the big white one) by a chap who initially passed us on a bike when we walked along the pavement. He had a child on the bike with him. He took us inside the mosque and explained the proceedings to us and then he asked for monty for the upkeep of the mosque and something for himself. All in all it cost us about £17. We didn't mind to much as we would never have known so much about it or probably even been inside it without his assistance
-
:o He loves people like you, he hasnt had us in nineteen years, not to sound smug, because others HAVE, but we live and learn dont we.Even in our own city there was a beggar, sitting in town all day, he too got caught out, when he was seen going home in his B.M.W.Guess its a way of life with our man in Fethiye, and he is the one laughing at us,: :)
-
Ah yes, my first time in Fethiye a few years ago now we had the 'look around the mosque' guy. We were actually on our way to catch a dolmus to Olu Deniz when this chap approached asking if we were looking for a Dolmus and we replied yes and that we were on our way to Olu Deniz, he said that the Dolmus is at least 15 minutes away (we were naive back then and took his word for it) and to kill time we could look in the mosque, great why not.
He gave us a running commentry once inside about Islam and about how much money he needs to save for his education and how difficult it was for him...and so on. After 20 minutes of babbling on I stopped being the polite English man and took the missus by the arm and walked out and of course he followed asking for money. To get him out of my hair I gave him a Lira, he wanted more. Take it or leave it my friend, a million is better than nothing eh? He took it whilst muttering something. SO YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
-
After we had got away from him I got really mad when I thought about the money we had handed over. I mean, to put it into perspective we could have both been out for 2 days of boat trips with that money. It was a lot of money for him and he must have thought us mugs. And we were.
-
You also need to be aware of the Old Boy in Kaya, Steve. He'll try to tap you up for a few Yorkshire Teabags.
-
ROFL, funny that, I have never had the pleasure. But maybe that was because when I have been at VR I haven't had Yorkshire Tea Bags on me as 'Old Boy' bait.....
-
:) As you said you could have had a good day out on that money, bet you felt like walking back and having a word with the creep,Thats alot of money there.Bet he is loaded,[^]
-
We saw the guy in the photo last week outside the mosque in Fethiye he was doing the shoeshine. We too have been conned by him 5 years ago and the experience both frightened us and ruined our day. But we learned from this and realise that you have to be on your guard at all times.
-
:) So true Heather, When you go on holiday you want to relax and you let your guard down, but this fella preys on people like that, it does my head in when decent people are had off by crap like him,:( but you, as many others have learned from the experience and maybe that will save you when you are weary of another scammer.:( ;)
-
T bags are packed in the case mate, see you in a few weeks.
-
Just thought about people going to Fethiye for the first time and I want to let them know about this scumbag punk. Dont let him ruin your day.....
-
He's still about, he normaly hangs around the Dolmus Station in Fethiye offering "tours" of the mosque.
-
I have just read through the 10 pages of this thread. What an absolute waster (thought I'd be polite :) ) this bloke is. Makes for pretty scary reading for holiday makers in the Fethiye area. My hubby's better at remembering faces than I am, so I've just shown him the photo on page 1. Will keep a close eye out for him near the mosque and dolmus station in future and avoid him like the plague.
Thanks for the warning. ;)
-
His usual opening remark is "Hallo English" Don't be tempted to shake hands he tries not to let go! Best way is just accelerate and do not stop :)
I must say he never bothers us now, says hallo and thats it 8)
-
maise or pepper spray only costs 25 lira from the hunting shop!!!
-
We know him to well met him 4 yrs ago lucky for me my wife is Turkish and told him to bugger off in Turkish no trouble since...
-
I wonder what the local Turks think of him. When I met him someone told him to back off, but I wonder what the general view is.
-
He jumped in my car in the harbour Area of Fethiye after i asked him for directions to the fishing shop, that turned out to be shut on a Sunday, he then refused to get out and said he wanted 20 lira for giving directions, so i took him towards calis where he could not wait to get out at every traffic light or round about, think that me telling him that i was on me way to Dalaman to get his money did the trick ....
-
I got to say in the 7 years I have been here, I have never seen him. And I dont want to either. It's people like him that ruin it for others in Fethiye. My poor husband, has his job made a lot harder, if it wasn't hard enough already. It's very difficult to find a happy mediumn, trying to encourage people to have a little look in your shop, without frightening them away, and giving Fethiye and Turkey a bad name.
-
If you have never seen him you do not know what he looks like....If you don't know what he looks like how do you know you have never seen him.:D:D We see him probably two or three times in a week but he never hassles us now other than a polite hallo. :)
-
There's a small clue on page 2 Brian :D

Page 1 even!:D But that was nearly five years ago before he had the Botox Treatment :) 8)
-
Hi we had a similar problem, but not with this one...his name is Jan and he has a turkish delight stall in the middle of the covered area near the Banana club...3 years in a row he's got us...before you know it you have a apple tea in your hand...then seats appear from nowhere....then some nice chat then the hard sell....but this year only got us for 20ylt We have since had a word with some of our Turkish friends who works for the goverment and who said they will go and have a gentle word with him....Simple rule NEVER except anything
-
I met this nice chap last year. Invited me and the missus in. We got the neck rub, the nice turkish delight, the tea and the lemon spray. Then offered us a deal on the Turkish delight. Told him didn't want any, he looked upset, so I think the missus bought something for 1 or 2 Lira and we walked out, him still looking upset. Does help me being 6 foot two and 15 stone.
I am back in Calis on Friday night for two weeks, I might go and see him again , a couple of Lira for two plates full of Turkish delight, two teas, a few sprays of lemon and I think it was two keyrings I managed to get doesn't seem too bad to me:-)
PS I think he has lost some of his kids, it was down to 9 last year.

We were in Fethiye last week and he was back at the shop wheeling 2 new "customers" inside, we were on the dolmus so unable to warn them - be warned his days of shoe shining around the mosque appear to be over and now it is back to hassling the tourists.

Oh what a shame for anyone he draws into his web. He is nothing but a Pig... An experience with this Bas###d can leave you feeling upset ans mistrustful to all Turkish people. We need a massive banner informing everyone to keep away from him.. Every time I see him now I say something very unpleasant in Turkish. He will never learn.
Heather

Is this the longest thread ever?? been running for 4 years and six days now !!
But important message for all new comers and a disgrace to turkey, such a shame, as we all know how nice the majority of turkish people are, but for some visitors this will be their ever lasting memory of the area and they are unlikly to return, hence he will do long term damage to the area.Is there no group leader or spokes person who can complain to the police on everybodies behalf ? May be Fethiye Times should run a front page artical on him as he has been getting away with it for so many years, Harming long term trade in the area. Then may be the police and local authority will do some thing about him.
-
we were on that road looking for a intrnet shop and I warned my husband that there was a guy who gave massages then demanded money. Didn't know which shop though. Anybody got a photo??
-
Heather,
Go back to the first page of this thread where you will see a photo.
Jacqui.
-
I saw that it ws the shop I wanted to see. So that I can avoid it.

I think it's time to remined everyone about this punk who takes advantage of people. Please keep his picture in your memory and give him a wide birth. He can ruin your holiday experience.
-
I agree Heather, a timely reminder for old hands and good to bring it back up for those going for the first time. Avoid this guy, don't even shake his hand. If you do, count your fingers!!!
Now, who can get us a photo of the currency exchange conman?
-
The currency exchange conman! Is that the one who is always loitering outside a clothes shop near Burger King?
-
The very same [:o]
-
Yeah - give him a wide berth as well - there's a currency shop just down the road on the corner. Much safer in there or a bank.
-
I will get a photo of him when I am over early May. Keith can we have the picture of the conman resurected every month through the summer so that all new members can see him.
Thanks
Heather x
-
Heather - I'm out at easter so i will also try to get a photo of mr sleazy currency man. He'll probably love the opportunity to pose for a photo ! (although he does tend to leave us alone as I once pushed him out of the way so hard he fell over the shop step !).:D
-
Perhaps we could have a 'Shyster of the Month' wall?
-
Never seen him there the last time over or the time before that, another guy there but probably still same scam.
-
been a different guy on his seat outside the clothes shop the past few weeks aswell as the man himself.(might be his apprentice)
-
There is usually the guy himself who is fair haired with glasses, who stands in the doorway of the shop and his friend a stout dark skinny balding man who often sits on a motor bike at the kerb so you have to run the gaunlet between the two of them.
We did use him a couple of times when we where first in Turkey and until we read about him on CBF.
After good advise on the Forum we got a Nationwide card which is much
better than getting money changed.

I am so glad I read this thread, we are planning a 2 week holiday in Calis in June, I am the 1 with sucker written on my forehead, once bought 3 bottles of spirits, vodka, bacardi, and whisky, when we opened them at christmas they were, water, water and cold tea. :o :-\, bought 200 ciggies and 9 of the packets were stuffed with paper :o :-\,I cooked my parents a lovely anniversary meal in Croatia, got up at 7'clock to get the freshest of veg from the market, turned out I paid £9.00 for 8 yes 8 SPUDS. :o :-\. Anyway I will definately be looking out for these sleazebags, forewarned is forearmed so they say.[8)]. Thanks, Lynn

The "Queen" and myself were walking from our place in Deliktas down to the marina for an evening stroll, when the massaging skallywag appeared out of nowhere, he tried telling us how much he loved the English and how he could give us a private guided tour of the rock tombs.
I think we confused him somewhat by telling him we were not English we were Welsh, and also pointed out it was 8.30 pm and a little late for climbing up to the tombs !, he was a little "socially confused" and had maybe lost track of time bless him.
He did hurl a bit of abuse, though I did find it all a little comical, I can see how people like he can be very intimidating and bad for the area, the more people who know about him the better.
-
some of these con men are amusing, although some go to far, a firm but polite no always works for me. And if they are rude I just walk on as sticks and stones etc, and you nearly always get the normal turks looking at them in disgust as they rant away. don't let them spoil your holiday.
-
Great being a Welsh man, let him try it on with me and I will confuse him with my fluent welsh rhetoric, might try a few poems and a song to boot! :)
Seriously, silly question, no role here for the tourist police!
Cymru am Byth
Kevin
-
A Few Welsh poems and a song, thats a very harsh punishment. : :): :)
-
Point taken, one of each then, that should do the trick!
-
Just the poem would do the trick!
-
There was an old man who did nothing but hassle..........next line please[?]:D
-
on his head wore a hat with a tassle
-
I luv the english :) he said, with his hat on his head[?]
-
They are so garrulous and gullible I need not fear to tread! - bum bum :D
-
:D:D. garrulous? :).Lynn

Cracking!

I think it happens once to most visitor's in Turkey.
I remember putting 20 million deposit on a leather jacket just so I could get out of the shop. Spent the rest of the week avoiding going past the shop !
We live and learn, although it does leave you feeling annoyed at them, and more annoyed with myself for being taken in by it.
-
....back to the poem...
For a 2 minute massage I extract lots of lira...
-
And I had a quick grope...I hope she wont tell
-
I find it amazing that people respond to a slimy old shop keeper rubbing them up when they are shopping for curtains or whatever? And give them money for doing so!! What would you do in Britain if the man in the corner shop came up and started rubbing your body? You would scream, run away and report him to the police and that's what you should do in Turkey. This man is clearly a sex pest and if he tries this with me he'll be in for a bloody shock!

I'd be extremely grateful and invite him to be one of my special friends. :D ;):D
-
So, at least you know where to go then KKOB when you are lonely and need a special friend. ))
-
Just want to let new members know about this very bad man. Avoid him at all cost.
-
Just printed a photo of this guy from page one and will carry it in my wallet. Now checking my Turkish phrasebook for 'Have you seen this pervy? Then show him the photo....ha ha ha
-
bu sapigi gordun mu? although it would be pronounced differently - I can't find the Turkish alphabet here :)

Ha-ha, my dear Watson! Found the scoundrel! Tried squirting wife, I squirted him in eye with Coke! His mate was gobsmacked!
Had a bit of fun with him and he stormed off in a huff.
1-0!

Swintonblue goes to the top of the class. Well Done Terry

This topic just achieved 25,000 reads :D

Will this mennace of a man ever get the message. He is a pain. If ever I see him I say something very unpleasant both in English then in Turkish as I m walking away. What a scum bag. I think everyone who has the unfortuate experience of this man is shocked and stunned at what he does to get money from unsuspecting holiday makers. The thing is you go to Turkey and meet some amazing Turkish people who are helpful, pleasant and genuine, The whole atmosphere is added to this, you are relaxed and enjoying the holiday then Bam; this Scum bag introduces himself and he can ruin your holiday. I detest the guy.
-
Hows about a good "Nack in the Kickers",? That would put the twat in his place!! ;)
Gordy.
-
That's a fantastic idea Gordon x
-
Another idea; in this day of computers, digital cameras, & all that goes with them, it would be so easy to have T-Shirts made up with this scum-suckers photo on the front, & back, above the slogan; "Stay clear of this guy". Sell them for a tad more than the production cost, give the profit to Calis Carnival, everybody's happy, EXCEPT him.. 8): :)
Gordy.
-
How about having the clothes shop change man's picture on the back of the tee shirt then it would be a double whammy - two scumbags for the price of one.
-
OH YES!! Like it, Elaina.
Gordy.
-
Great Idea, or we should put his photo, or get a better more recent photo and put it as a regular topic so that those new to the forum and those going to Turkey for the first time can check out what the scum bag looks like and avoid him.

Good Work Keith thanks. Oh I could kick him in the nuts.
-
where have those hands been previously
lol
-
Went along that road on Tuesday and he was on the opposite side to the shop offering "Shoe shine 2 lira", was down that way again this morning, no sign of him anywhere and the shop looked as if it had been cleared out, maybe we are rid of him at last
-
Don't think so you can never get rid of that rat. If he wasn't there he will be somewhere else perhaps offering to show tourists around the beautiful mosque then he will scam you for money. He has a thousand ways of getting unsuspecting tourists to trust him then he goes for it and fills you with shock and terror. He is a RAT.
Lets resurect his photo with a warning at regular times through the year on this forum so new people can see the scum bag pig. oooHh so sorry my blood boils when I think of his antics on good honest folk.
-
The book I've just read - see book section, has an entry in the diary about an encounter with this guy -or someone with a large family - fluent in several languages blah blah blah - offered them a massage. And that was back in 1996! :o
-
Know this is an old topic but just to let you know that the shop has closed down but he is still there doing shoe shine, so still be on your guard.
-
Nice to see that people are aware that this sod is still around and warning newbies.
8)
-
It doesn't often happen that a member replies to a topic he started nearly six years earlier! Excellent loyalty...
-
I just think that we need to make people aware of these type of people and not be embarrassed / ashamed of admitting that we have been had (if you will excuse the turn of phrase!).
-
Couldn't agree more
-
I just hope that this series of posts has stopped at least one more person being intimidated and above all cost this b*gger his main source of income.
-
I think he was on a luxury holiday - we were had recently so he is still there! Not sure how we managed to be so stupid but we were! His home brew is 30TL and is diabolical! Ugh - revolting! He tried it on again few days later - don't be dragged in. He has about 7 children and apparently 28 grandchildren now!
-
This man is still out and about in Fethiye. I saw him yesterday on the one way system, complete with his shoe shine kit. BEWARE.
-
just putting the pic on again to bump his ugly mug up a little.
Don't be conned guys
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v404/Calis2004/CalisSept05/P9190056.jpg)
-
His shop is closed but he is often still sitting there. The last few times I have passed he seems p---d and could hadly stand. He is now offering to take people to places just under the toumbs.
-
Is it not possible to report the old sod to the tourist board or somebody because he is damaging their tourist industry?

All very well but isn't his father mayor of Fethiye?
-
How old would that make his father??!!
-
38
-
He stopped us last week with his usual "are you from England?" I said, I know who you are. He replied "Thank You "and moved on. I could almost haer him thinking, Bloody Calis Beach Forum.
-
Has he ever had a father....I would doubt that very much? The old B*****d.

Come and be touched up in the rock tombs? How novel!
-
OMG is he still around. We fell in his trap about 7 years ago. From what I can remember there was a massive tread about him then too.
He made my skin crawl. He went from Mr nice guy to Mr Evil within seconds. Very intimidating when your in a foreign country. The only trouble with us Brits is that we are far to polite to tell them to wee off.
I've since learned my lesson. I now stay clear of anyone asking us in their shop
-
This Punk has been around for years upsetting people. Would it be possible to put up his picture every April before people go on holiday and then again every other month so that people are reminded who he is. If ever I pass him I stare at him and tell him he is a very bad man. He really upset me and my hubby about 6 years ago but I will never forget him as the experience was very scary.
-
he has been at it for at least 8years to my knowledge, when he sees me now, he just gives a slight scowl
because when he asked us for money. i gave him 1TL in small change and didn't see the funny side of it.
-
I'd thought of something similar Heather - like a Rogue's Gallery.
We have our local churchgoer/property scammer/other stuff and of course our old favourite "Changemoney Man":
So from April I'll try to remember. Last week it was noticeable that Changemoney Man tends to sit inside and his sidekick does the street touting. Maybe somewhere made his activities too famous..? :D
-
Yes, We were in Cagatay's last month and Colin's sidekick came in and gave Cagatay a small parcel and had a conversation with him. We where wondering was it Colin's teeth that someone had removed.. ;D :o : :)
