Electric Toasters

What is the point of them? They are b_____ useless at toasting bread and there's not much else you can get into them. Yet it seems every kitchen must have one. I suppose that someone may say that they save time or money over using the grill on the oven. But saving it doing what? Toasting bread? But they don't; they just dry out the slices and give them a decorative, but tasteless, brown coating.

Even worse are garlic crushers - squash the cloves with a knife for X's sake - but at least these are usually a less expensive waste of money.

Tomorrow, further selections of useless gadgets ... maybe ... unless you add your own.

I don't use my toaster much for ordinary bread, it gets used for soda, potato scones, crumpets, muffins and of course when my son is over, for frozen waffles.( My toaster has a de-frost button).
The beauty of toasters is you don't need to watch them.  If I put anything like these aforementioned things under the grill,  I would forget about them, and they would burn.
Anyway,  my oven in Calis does not have a grill so toaster there is essential.

what is even more annoying is having a toaster in calis, but you cant get proper size bread to fit in, only daft shape warm bread freshly baked every few hours in wood fired ovens. ;)
 Oh for a Warburtons toastie

Yeah JH, you can't sway me with talk of "frozen waffles" - as if I would know what they are.

Colwyn if you have not had a potato waffle your life is obviously unfilled.
Lovely with egg and bacon or beans or just with melted butter.  Time you lived a little. Can I  tempt you?

We once had a toaster with "croissant warmer". This turned out to be a flimsy bit of metal framework which clipped onto the top of the toaster that a croissant could sit upon, about 2" above the slots. Possibly the most temporary and pointless appendage in the history of kitchen appliances.
