At least the step leads somewhere - unlike this villa we saw on holiday in Tavira, Portugal, earlier this year.

Looks like low water - once it rises I suspect they may have been for use of arrivals by boat.  Maybe.

I had managed to work that out, JohnF, but the sight was so comical I couldn't resist snapping it. Mind you, what use a boat landing stage that can only be used twice a day - at different times every day - might be I couldn't tell. And obviously you couldn't moor up your boat there.
