We Didn't Start Fire 2016
« on: December 30, 2016, 14:34:49 PM »
Do you remember Billy Joel's song "We Didn't Start the Fire"? It covers things that happened between his birth in 1949 and writing the song in 1989. It covers wars and horrors, famous careers and deaths, politics and politicians, and much else. I was born a couple of years earlier than Billy so his song time period matches the backdrop to the first 42 years of my life. Over a couple of pints of beer at lunchtime it crossed my mind that so much has happened, for good and ill in 2016 that a second version could be penned for one year covering Brexit, Trump, Putin, Syria, ISIS in Europe, David Bowie, Leonard Cohen, George Michel, Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds, and many, many more.

If you are too young or out of touch to remember the song here is a visual interpretation of it:

Well here are some to start the song off. I watched this earlier and was shocked at the number of well known people that

had passed away in 2016 that I had forgotten about or missed. Merry Christmas Colwyn, now get composing.

Quite a list. I wondered it there was anyone who made both Billy Joel's list and this list. I found only one.
