]We have the extreme good fortune to have a young, enthusiastic Turkish Vet, able to stay at Misha and Toms side until they are fully ready to venture out into the open sea.
However, the location is remote, and isolated, the accomodation is very very basic.
We need to make his, hopefully not too long, stay there as comfortable as possible!
This will be a first for Turkey, will provide much knowledge for future rescued dolphins and will be of immense benefit our two boys.
WE NEED YOUR HELP!!
In order to spend every avaliable lire on the essential fish, medication etc for the dolphins we ask for anyone who can spare any of the following, to post a reply.
If possible items can be taken to the Jazz night this Friday, from which it will be delivered as quickly as possible.Or we can arrange collection.
ELECTRIC KETTLE
TOASTER, SANDWICH MAKER
CROCKERY, CUTLERY
SAUCEPANS
RADIO,
DVDS, BOOKS IN ENGLISH AND TURKISH,
QUILTS, COVERS, BLANKETS ETC
BINOCULERS, TORCHES
GALVANISED BUCKETS FOR THE FISH,
HOUSEHOLD CLEANING MATERIALS,AND BRUSHES, VAC, ETC
FREEZER IN GOOD CONDITION FOR FISH
Also, any item not mentioned above that you have spare, that may make the dwelling more comfortable for our dedicated Vet to live in!!
We also need a vehicle, going very cheap or better still donated!!
Please please have a belated spring clean... and post here any items you can offer. It would be so very much appreciated
Thank you in anticipation of your help! [/

As you know I work for FIG and would normally try to sell for funds But will rummage through my stuff here at home I am sure I acn supply saucepans and blankets and a few books
-
There's a group of us going so I'll let them know about this. Is there going to be a designated drop off point?
-
There will be something near the entrance gate probably near the table with the raffle prizes on it.
-
Thanks Nichola!
-
All the money raised through the sale of raffle tickets will go directly to the cost of the rehab.
This will include things like fish and their multivitamins - our boys need seriously fattening up after being on a starvation diet forcing them to do tricks for food. How disgusting is that. let's help put this right.
We have some amazing prizes as you know...

Hi there everyone
thanks for the wonderful response so far, we know many people are bringing some bits and bobs tonight to the Jazz Benefit to raise funds for the Dolphins.
I asked Erdem our Vet to sit down with the team and come up with a list of essentials and I just now received this reply
Hi Nichola,
Everything is very well. Dolphins said that they missed you :)))
Any way the we could want from you that,
Hand mixer/Blender
mugs
Glasses
Office table
table for kitchen
towel, pillow like this bed sheet things.
Second hand computer just for communication stroge
gardrop - I don't know what this is
tv and dvd player just for watch film/dolphin documantries
cleanable table cover
fork, spoon like this kitchen things what ever you find.
Derya will contackt for car later but I think you can start for search for car.
(note from me - we are looking for a very reasonably priced, (or free) reliable second hand four wheel drive vehicle - the approach road to the sanctuary which is remote is to say the least difficult and we need to bring large quantities of live fish supplies amongst other things so capacity is important- end of note from me ;))
Hope to see of all you
With Hugs,
Erdem

we have been overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity of people who have not just donated some of the above items from their home but also practically bought up Migros in order to help and support our Vets while they look after Tom and Misha.
Thank you all so very very much.
We will get everything to them very soon.
-
Everything that was donated and purchased for the team looking after Misha and Tom is on its way today along with some medication for Tom who isn't showing such positive signs of recovery as Misha and a big bag of groceries brought along today.
here is a message from Derya when I told the team about your kindness.
Hi Nichola,
It is really good to hear that people care dolphins and also us :)
Many thanks for your efforts dear.
Derya
-
that is a lovely message. fingers crossed for Tom I really hope he will be ok and start to perk up soon.
-
I would like to give a big thank you to the vets who are giving their all to help Tom and Micha become well enough to be released back to the wild.
-
Thanks for this - I will pass it on - I gave them the link to this topic before and will send it on again.
They are lovely caring people and totally dedicated. We are getting regular, well actually daily feedback from them about Tom and Misha's progress and about all the plans to prepare for and to start the rehab process once they are both stabilised.
Thanks again to those that contributed and made donations of goods and groceries recently - although I know who some are I don't know others so I won't mention any names - you all know who you are and that's not why you did it anyway.
Thanks it is really appreciated :)
-
Good news continues with Misha and Tom both doing well and eating.
The other bit of good news is from Derya at the rehab centre
"Finally we solved the transportation permanently by Zafer's (member of SAD Board) personal contact. SHe talked with his friend from Sixt Rent a Car Company and they assigned a Fiat Albea for free".
Can't be better than that (not sure its going to cope with the approach road but never mind). Another problem solved and some money saved.
A big thanks to these guys is in order so I will post their link here if that is ok!

Great news...people can be so kind when its needed...xxx
-
hello again - thanks for everything donated so far.
Just hoping someone can help with any of the following.
- an electric heater for the cold winter months
- also needed a table for eating/ extra work space.
We will of course collect if anyone has these larger items.
Thanks :D
-
Got a four bar electric Fire you can have......looks a bit naf but works fine. Also has a built in humidifyer. Can be picked up near the Otogar in fethiye :)
-
Ok leave that with me - I'l message you Brian, thanks :)
-
I know I said this elsewhere but just a thought, but I wonder if Kerametin Yilmaz, or the Turkish government will be contributing any money, as they allowed this sorry affair in the first place. I never got an answer, but I am sure myself and others would like to know, as they should shoulder some of the costs.
-
Thank you Brian and Ann and Pauline and Andy for the radiators to keep Misha and Toms Vets warm during the cold winter months.
Our trip was very much appreciated as we came laden with lots of goodies for them as well. After a two week diet of plain pasta, omlette and fish I'm not surprised! Not Tom and Misha's fish of course!
Now I have another request - we have been doing very well so far but this one may not be so easy.
Erdem and Derya need a Zodiac dingy - one of those plastic blow up things about 4 metres long. No engine required as we already have this.
The boat they go out on to feed Misha and Tom is ok for the calm sea but with winter approaching the stormy seas are going to make getting out to them four times a day a bit of a challenge.
So if you can help or know someone that can please contact me...
Are you organising a fundraising event to help pay for Misha and Tom's rehab costs. If so let Born Free know and you can inspire others by appearing on the new Born Free web page dedicated to Misha and Tom fund raisers.

Perihan has one for sale!!! ;)

Just got my copy of Take a Break and I see that a lady on this forum (I won't mention any names) has had a story published and donated her fee for the story to Born Free. Well done her - but a sad story - a so called friend who she trusted but that trust was sadly beached but at least the English Courts dealt with it and the culprit did get a sentence.
-
Is this published person's name a secret then? Was she Ms. X in Take a Break :D
Good on her anyway, a superb gesture.
-
No her name was not a secret but it's up to her if she wants it commonly known on the forum - anyway I am sure you will suss who she is if you buy the magazine.
-
Buy Take a Break? Never! I'll have a quick read in WH Smith :D
-
No probs about using my name. Will be sending monies to rehab fund as soon as I can get hold of the cheque early Dec, unless I can access it sooner. Scunner liberate yourself, read the story, after all they have given £800 to the fund.
-
Do I need liberating? :D
I will read the story!
-
Rosy please would you mind contacting Joanne at Born Free so they can feature you on their new web page dedicated to featuring how people like yourselves have raised money to help contribute to Misha and Tom's rehabilitation costs.

Well done Rosy - I did not want to put your name because that is your choice. Glad to see the individual got some kind of punishment and that you were fortunately not left out of pocket - but very upsetting ans distressful nonetheless. So that the second time an Uzumluite has been in TAB:D:D - are there any more out there - I wonder :) :)
Anyway at least some good came out of it and you helped Tom and Misha :)
-
I am very pleased to report that we now have a Dinghy - donated to the Vets looking after Misha and Tom.
Thank you to everyone who contacted me about this.
-
I know some people are claiming Dolphin compassion fatigue but for those that are sticking the course we know you'll do all you can to help :) thank you...

I know its short notice, but
Is there anyone coming to the Fethiye area iminently that can bring 2 stainless steel buckets.
It does not seem possible to buy them here in Turkey.
We need them for Misha and Toms daily fish. Buckets made with plastic or galvanised metal are not suitable and we have to get everything right as the whole world is watching how we do the rehab and some will be looking to criticise.
Thanks in anticipation :D
-
I'm coming out to 29th and I have a couple of customers in farm
supplies but would need to twist easyjets arm for extra weight
does anyone have any contacts for easyjet pr
-
Hi Carol
have just been doing some research into prices and found huge price differences starting from £23 to more than £100 for 12litre bucket. Can't see why, they all look the same to me.
Anyway, I have asked for clarification on size and if there is anything else important to take into account. Will post info here as soon as I know it.
We can cover the cost of buckets of course to who ever can help with this. Thanks
-
I was recently in Jersey and was told the excess charges for luggage were quite horrendous.
The students there have discovered that instead of paying excess luggage they are cheaper posting their belongings to the mainland.

Not sure if this will help in this case.
-
Hi Nichola I will contact my customers first thing monday,
if they do them I'm sure they will let me have them at
wholesale price. I feel sure if anyone has a contact
for easyjet they would waive the excess baggage charge.
-
Firstly I'd like to thank Carol for her help re stainless steel buckets.
I know this is a long shot but we desperately need a caravan or camper van on loan for about six months. It will be used for accommodation for one of the staff team on site and also to help accommodate visitors when it is too wet and cold to pitch a tent.
Can anyone help :D
