Shame you'll miss the Christmas Fair, as it's on 4th. But you'll be able to get your bearings in time for car boot fair - usually a good social gathering - on 18th & "splash" on Boxing Day

Just a quick update,

We arrived last Sunday, all whent ok in the end however we had a scare with Oscar, he had an adverse reaction with one of his medications 48 hours before our flight, it was then left in the hands of defra to say yay or nay as to if he could fly or not and to wait for the call, the call never came so all whent ahead, he is now back to his old form and is loving his new life style as are we, hope to meet up with some CBF members in the not too distant future.

Mark & Jackie

Congrats to you both on your move.  Hope you enjoy your new life - we do the same on 7th Feb 2012 and looking forward to it.  We are also taking our dog Rory and would like to know if your dog was ok in Turkey on your arrival - i have to admit I am worried about him on the plane, never done anything like this before.  Did you keep the crate? we are not sure what to do with it because it will be too big to put in the car on our arrival.  We have a big dog ( labradoodle ).  We will live near the Calis Market- wishing you well and maybe we will meet soon. Glad to hear Oscar is happy.

Hi Jenny,

On arrival to Antalya we waited at baggage reclaim for our bags and just next to that the door marked oversized parcels, we waited here and sure enough Oscar was pushed through the doorway, he was so pleased to see us and likewise we were to see him, we had a bit of a scare 48 hours before flying so was a great relief to have finally landed and that he was ok, he also had never flown and we have never done anything like this before.  The oher passengers were mostly surprised to see a large dog arrive and the children around thought he was lovely, there was one woman however that as he was pushed through the door i heared her say " as if theres not enough in the country"
[:(!] oh god i wish i could turn the clock back now she would get both barrels!
Anyway we loaded him in his kennel onto a trolley and proceeded through customs, 3 customs men all looked as we whent past  but we were not stopped or questioned at all. We met with our friend outside the airport and loaded the car, the kennel if it is the same as ours splits into 2, as in the top comes off the bottom and fits in each other, and yes it's yours to keep as you have paid fr it.
I hope all goes well with your trip and your dog arrives as safely and happy as Oscar did, it would be great to meet up once you have settled we are very close to you it would seem, we're very near Aydin Pide.
If there is anything you want to ask before your trip or after please contact me and will help if I can.
All the best,
Mark.

Thanks Mark for your prompt reply - I am so pleased all went well, it is a massive relief for me.  I agree with Hubblebubbles can you add a photo of Oscar - would love to see him so I can look out for you.  We will be living in the Manzara Apartments near Roka Restaurant and I will be doing some voluntary work for Animal Aid after we have settled in - I really want to help with the street dogs etc.. and help to raise some money.  I was'nt aware the kennel splits in two, if ours does that would be great because we could then fit it in the car and donate it to AA.  Hope to see a picture of Oscar soon and look forward to meeting you in Calis.  Merry Christmas.

Welcome to Calis to you & Oscar hope you are getting settled. We came over March 2010 with 3 boxer dogs and like you were pleased that it was so quick & easy to get the dogs out of the airport (we landed at Dalaman) we left the kennel at the airport (there were a lot of people wanting them)& as there was three and thay did not split it was best for us. Like Oscar our three were happy to get back to the villa & get used to all the new smells I know Oscar will love it here I hope you will also Have a very happy 1st Christmas in Calis Jan & Steve xx

Hi , and welcome to Calis. We are moving our wee Yorkie over in Feb 2012, We have been in Calis for nearly 4 yrs now and have mainly stayed all of the months from April to Nov , but now we have our new Villa completed we are making the move permanent. I have one question in relation to Transfer costs for a dog , We have been quoted 400 pounds to have her transferred , in the hold , and more likely a T.Cook Flight into Antalya. Is this a reasonable price..

Pretty good quote - we took our two pets over a month ago, and the best price we had was £480 each

We come over on 7th Feb and our dog is costing us £1242 but he is a large dog ( labradoodle ) we are going with Thomas Cook to Antalya - we got several quotes all expensive but I think your quote sounds about right for the size of your dog, also bare inmind they make a cage for him/her and the costly part is the space used up in the hold - apparently Thomas Cook charge the most!  Good luck with the move, what date do you go? and where is your Villa, Calis??

When jacki went to doha she was charged 70 lira from dalaman , all the way and that was in the cabin (business class) Coming back on Turk Airlines we were charged for a total of 15 kilos excess and that included the cage.

Charli is a Shi Zue by the way so is quite small

I paid £168 for my cat - with Thomson - the lady in Thomson cargo who deals with animal flights is excellent.  It's to do with the size of the cage.  i think that the price you have been quoted sounds a bit high.   I was quoted that sort of price for a pet shipping company to send her and decided to do it myself as it was cheaper - the people at Defra were so helpful and the procedure and paperwork was very straightforward.

Sandy, Have yo got the contact details for Thomsons please, I paid about 180 pound to bring my dog over, seems a bit high to me as well[?] the cage bit seems confusing, as I just purchased the size that DEFRA recomended for size and weight of my dog and paid the excess baggage fee per kilo with the airline :o

Hi , Jenny we are living at Moon Villas Calis, (The Manzara Houses at the back of the Pelin Hotel)

Thanks everyone for all your input on this one , It looks like we will be bringing our dog via Antalya, hopefully end of February, aswell as you all know the lack of flights in and out of Dalaman out of season and you can get a Thomas Cook Flight out of Glasgow all year anyway , so at least we do not have to travel down South to get a flight. Some Interesting prices, we have had all our dogs Innoc's and the usual Test's all done , have bought an approved IATA Cage aswell , so we will be provibing the cage .

Angie double check the availability of pets on TC flights from Glasgow, they stopped doing them a couple of months ago and were unsure when or if they would be continuing them.
