Title: More on KayaKoy Hotel
Post by: Scunner on January 24, 2013, 00:42:40 AM
It's all about getting more tourists in...

It's taken many decades for powers that be in Turkey to fully appreciate the treasures it has, maybe still not even fully now. But if it's a drive to get tourist cash that makes them take it seriously, then that's better than nowt. The question is, will realising the value of places like Kayakoy and Fethiye Amphitheatre finally lead to responsible preservation or will it lead to commercialisation and squeezing all the cash you can out of them.

I think the latter rather than the former.

Sadly the mentality (in my own view) with Turkish authorities is down to one thing - "Can it make money?". If yes, put in water slides and paint it, if no, forget it and let it crumble. Tragic.
