I know its a bit late....but
« on: January 08, 2007, 12:18:37 PM »
Merhaba all

I have realised at this late stage in my life that it really would have been sensible to have pursued my driving test and got my licence before now :(otherwise my ability to do certain work here in Turkey is going to be limited if and when it arises. ;)

Or am I really up the creek without a paddle:D

Any suggestions? Sensible ones lütfen!

Hi Linda, I've got a licence but there is no way i will drive in Turkey, i don't go too far, you have trouble parking in Fethiye and the dolmus is cheap, and where my place is the blue bus passes at 5 mins past the hour, what more do i need, the furthest i travel over hee is to see my mother 10 miles away. Hi Alan, I can appreciate how you feel and I agree the transport system here is brilliant+ second to none.   Yes when I have been with friends they often complain at the parking problems in Fethiye.  When my daughter came over here she said she wanted to rent a car and drive but I didnt let her do it because I was worried about all the other drivers she would kill on the roads!  :))!

In all the time I've lived here I've never had problems with parking. I drive a 4x4 and it's not as if it'll fit into small spaces. There are always spaces available somewhere around the town centre.

I don't know why people make such a fuss about driving in Turkey.

In fact, because drivers are so unpredictable in Turkey, you just KNOW they're going to try something stupid ! LOL

I agree with KKOB, both parking & driving in Turkey are not a problem, just expect strange things. This is nothing different than driving in UK; they are not all locked up.

KKOB, will you ever tell us about the "red mist" in your life? I bet you could tell a few stories ;) 8)

no problem parking and I like the system of if you go over the ticket time you just pay the parking guy, must fairer system than the money grabbing people of doubtful parentage we have running parking in uk, with regards to driving test I believe you can book a block of lessons here in uk with test at the end, quite expensive. prehaps a crash course is avaible in turkey. ;)
