« on: August 10, 2007, 16:58:44 PM »
A meeting is taking place in the Tea House opposite the Mosque on Monday 13th August at 6pm to show opposition to the Cement factory that has already been given planning consent. It will be in Turkish, English & German with people attending from Istanbul, Fethiye etc.
It will affect air quality as well as land & house prices and be devasting to this beautiful village. It is opposed by the locals as well as expats so if you can make it please attend to show an united opposition.
Any builders who have land or develpments here (Scunner & Yetkin take note) could also be affected so please attend.
If you can pass this on to any others who you know please do.
Lets make people power work .
Thanks
Eric & Fi

As I understand it, the proposed cement factory is to be built where Uran Tas get their gravel from. The small villiage about 5 kilometers from the main road opposite the first restaurant approaching Uzumlu.quote]Originally posted by Eric

Hi Just to let you know last Thursday about 60 people (both local and ex-pats) from Injicoy and Uzumlu held a protest in Fethiye and handed a petition of 500 names to the council, both local press ans national Turkish TV covered the event. Afterwards a small meeting took place with a representive of Urantas to explain his side. Permission was given in 2003 for this factory.

The protest organisers held a meeting with lawyers on Thursday, the action is with the people who gave the permission and NOT the cement company who have as far a can be assed at the moment have done nothing wrong, although aquireing was underhand as ti is owned by a village of 50 people and the Mucta singed saying all agreed with this.

I am now back in the UK, one of the most difficult things is coordination of a united front and keeping everyone informed, as not everyone is on email.

Paul.

Just for clarity...

Urantas supply concrete - is anyone actually sure what is being proposed here? There is immense difference in scale, pollution and potential impact between what are two completely different things altogether - a concrete plant or a cement factory.

I would tend to assume it is the former, due to the local geology. If by remote chance it is a cement factory, God help Uzumlu.
