Hello to all in Uzumlu,

My partner and I will be moving out in about 18months time.  Our villa is fini and were in the process of filling it.  My partner is a mountaneer and I am trying to find an ordinance survey map of the surrounding mountains and/or Lycian Way. Hope you can help as I have exhausted the internet.

Kay.

Hi Kay,

Welcome, but please let me know a different name you would like to use as using your email address will result in you getting billions of emails from people who buy published email lists.

I really don't think you will find anything like this. A good map of Fethiye is hard enough to find!! My only recommendation would be to get a copy of 'The Lycian Way' (Amazon have it)- it has a map in the book and the breakdown of the route of the Lycian Way, although the map itself isn't that great, it is a good book and part of the route does go through the mountains. I think it would probably be about the best you could find though. I looked in a specialist map shop in London once, to find I alreday had a much better map that I bought on Amazon (just a general map though, not for mountaineering). Would be interested if anyone has any other suggestions re. maps??

You won't find any. Because Turkey is a military state, maps are very strictly controlled and anything other than basic road maps have to be obtained through special contacts.

One way of obtaining detailed maps of an area is to ask an estate agent if they'll get hold of a Cadastral Map of your village for you. It's a plan showing each individual plot of land in a particular area, but obviously there won't be any contour markings to work with.

It's also well worth making screen prints of areas using Google Earth.
