Communal painting
« on: July 31, 2008, 19:36:42 PM »
Just to let all members of CBF know that the communal painting whih was created at the Calis Carnival on June 7 was presented to the Director of Calis State Hospital on Monday.

A copy of the press release follows........

A framed  oil painting of a postcard of Calis which had been created by 120 Calis Carnival goers was presented to the Director of the Calis State Hospital on Monday by members of the Calis Carnival Committee.

Carnival Chairman Peter Clark and FETAV Manager Dilek Dincer presented the colourful painting to Dr. Birol Durukan.  It is hoped that the painting and the accompanying framed explanation will be displayed in the children's clinic at the hospital.

The painting was the inspiration of English artist Tina McCallan who invited 120 carnival-goers, mostly children, to paint a communal Masterpiece based on a postcard of the scenic Calis Beach.

Each person was invited to choose a same sized square of a blown-up postcard and asked try to copy it as closely as possible to the original onto a square on the canvas to create an oil painting. The project created a temporary artistic community bringing together both tourists and local residents and helped to promote the carnival ethos "Hand in Hand for Calis".

Carnival Chairman Peter Clark said "We are very pleased with the finished painting. We wanted to present it to a state building in the Calis area where it will be seen by lots of people and where is more appropriate that the children's clinic at the local hospital?".

The Calis Carnival which took place on 7 June 2008 helped to raise over 23,000 lira to help the deprived and disadvantaged children in the Calis/Fethiye area. The Committee hope to include  a similar painting project at next years Carnival which will take place in Calis on Saturday 23 May 2009.
