Kieth,  In answer to your previous question I have quoted part of the Fethiye Times explanation, hope it helps;

"Kas port does not have a Turkish Duty Free shop so the normally generous allowances are severly restricted to those listed below:

 - 1 Ltr of Spirits (Gin, Vodka, whisky) (or 2 * 70cl bottles if they are packaged like that)

 - 200 cigarettes,
 - 10 Cigars,
 - 200gr pipe tobacco,
 - 20ml perfume/aftershave etc,
 - 1kg Coffee,
 - 1kg chocolate

In addition customs rules forbid the importation of certain food stuffs including bacon and pork products."

Plus;

"It really is worth buying your allowance [See below] as the prices are significantly lower than Turkey. We have listed a few examples below [as at September 2008]:

# JB Rare 1L - Duty Free 13.00 Euro (24 YTL) Price in Turkey 64 YTL
# Jack Daniels 1L - Duty Free 20.30 Euro (37 YTL) Price in Turkey 86 YTL
# Bacardi 1L - Duty Free 14.30 Euro (26 YTL) Price in Turkey 64 YTL
# Gordons Dry Gin Export Strength 1L - Duty Free 10.25 Euro (19 YTL) Price in Turkey 48 YTL but a lower alcohol %.
# Marlboro Red or Gold Box of 200 - Duty Free 15.70 Euro (29 YTL) Price in Turkey 48 YTL"

Fethiye does not have a duty free Shop but it seems it does not have a restricted allowance either when returning from Rhodes!  So why.......Am I cynical enough to think it could be a source of revenue to the officials in Kas:(

Can't answer that one, only going by what was in the Fethiye Times. 8)  Perhaps an e-mail to them might get an answer:(or maybe not :)

There certainly doesn't seem to be any restrictions on spirit allowances for Kas boat captains, from what I saw. And yes, I do wonder, what ever happens to the bottles confiscated on your return to Kas?
