Eric   - wonderful.  Thank you very much.   Definitely a very large Efes on order for you when we next visit....unfortunately you may have a long wait, not planning to visit until next June now (don't ask.....).   Lovely piccies but can't see how Rindi can tell the difference between a male and female from that distance  ;)!

Just a guess but I think the second picture is a male  - that bird has lovely red feathers on the back of it's head where as the bird in the first picture does not and we all know that in the animal kingdom the male wears the posh clothes.

It also has red flashes on it's wings.

I would like to get some photographs of my own of these beautiful birds. Is there any particular time of day to see them...any particular spot in the village where they are most likely to be seen? Any information would be appreciated. :)

Tribalelder...
No particular time. Big flocks in the late afternoon/early evening and they perch on the electric wires for a while.
We took the pics last year when we had electric wires running over our land so they were very close. Have seen them on nearby wires most evenings but you'd need a good zoom lense.
If you want to come up some day let us know and as we have wires at the front and back of the house you might get lucky enough to get a picture  ;)
Cheers
Fi
