Where the money is being spent!!!!
« on: September 25, 2008, 21:13:57 PM »
The Calis Carnival Committee held it's first meeting of the new season today (September 25) attended by representatives from FETAV, Fethiye Belediye, the British Consulate, local press plus other members of the 2008 committee together with new members who want to be involved and are committed to help organise next years carnival,(any other members would be welcomed particularly Turkish or Turkish speaking).

We are now pleased to advise that it has been agreed that the bulk of the money raised from the 2008 Carnival fundraising programme (which is presently gaining interest in a high interest bank account) will be spent in the following ways once prices are received and are approved.

10 Carnival bursaries for students to attend university who otherwise would not be able to afford to do so. These students are selected by the governor's office of the Belediye from deserving cases.

The creation of and  equipping of apparatus for a sensory garden for disabled and mentally handicapped children at Patlangic School, as well as providing equipment for a soft room (ball pit/pool, interactive lights etc)
Provision of tables, chairs and small electrical items for the same disabled department/refectory eg dvd player, microwave etc.

Provision of a stair climbing wheelchair to enable access for disabled and mentally handicapped children at a rehabilitation centre in Fethiye (presently staff have to carry children up 4 flights of stairs to the physio dept which is both distressing for the children and heavy duty for the staff)

Some playground equipment for Faralya school to enable children to interact with one another.

The carnival committee have already provided 14 tents for the Fethiye Scout Group.

A full report of all income, expenditure and accounts will be made public once funds are distributed.

We would like to thank everyone who has supported the carnival and our fundraising/social functions throughout the 2008 carnival season and we hope that you all will continue to support us in this coming season and help make Calis Carnival 2009 culminating in Carnival Day on 23 May 2009 even bigger, better and more successful still.
