Does anyone know why everyone and their vehicles are queueing up at MOT station. Some have been there 3 days at least

Sorry mystery solved, read Fethiye Times link. Its only panic stations by the Turks who think the new MOT will be harder. Vehicle Visa Chaos

And finally, following an announcement that visa testing for vehicles is to be privatised in the new year, drivers panicked and headed en masse for the Government Testing Station on the Üzümlü road, Fethiye.

The theory was that what is now quite a lax test will become much stiffer after privatisation.

One of the holders of a licence to start testing from 1st January 2009 said drivers had nothing to fear from the new testing regime.

That didn't stop the queue from reaching 3km in length at its peak.

That's all the news snippets for 2008 but we'll be back in the new year with our selection of local news.

I think that the bloke selling the Kofte down there spread the rumour that the MOT was going to be stricter. He can sell Kofte and get his old van tested at the same time. He has now been joined by the Orange seller and a bloke wandering up and down trying to sell Childrens suede and fur waistcoats. (Well something similar to suede and fur)

What is the rule here for MOTs? I'm surprised to hear they have such a system in place as most of the cars here would not be allowed on uk roads!

For cars there's a check every 2 years, for Doblo's, Connect's etc and larger vehicles it annually.

I was told today that there are vehicles in that queue from Antalya and Mugla, as the new regime has already been introduced there.

The procedure is, queue up every year for days to get your car checked, or just pay someone 20 lira, you don't even need to bring the car  ;)
