Fethiye Boys Orphanage
« on: January 27, 2010, 08:23:12 AM »
In a second joint project, Calis Carnival and Embrace charities have combined together to purchase a large table football machine for the youngsters at Fethiye Boys Orphanage. Yesterday members of both charities visited the orphanage and met some of the boys who were only too happy to show off their skills on their new game. again a big thanks to all for your support :D

I didn't know there was an orphanage, that's made my list of places I want to work even longer! Congratulations on getting the table, I'm sure they will have hours of fun

The boys orphanage is close to the Tuesday Market in Fethiye and they have around 60 boys there at the moment.  They are opening a girls orphanage in Calis in April which will also be a rehabilitation centre so, depending on what is needed, this may be a project for 2010 carnival funds.

Thanks, theres so much we tourists are unaware of.
There used to be a building near the Calis dolmus that listed conditions they worked with including Downs Syndrome, autism etc. Ive always wanted to know more about it but havent been able to find the building again. Ive googled it but nothing. Does anyone know if there is still a centre for people with learning disabilities? It had the awful name of the association for the mentally crippled. I would love to work there one day as a volunteer but dont know if it still exists.

It changed its name to the much better sounding 'Calis Beach Forum': :)
