Giant Head has pride of place in Belediye Building
« on: June 30, 2010, 21:56:44 PM »

Don't be surprised if you see a giant confused looking orange head when you go to pay your bills at Fethiye Municipality office.

Visitors to the building are now greeted with the sight of a vibrant abstract painting. The colourful orange and pink painting of a giant head is the result of Calis Carnival's 2010 communal painting project and it is causing a lot of interest in the Belediye office!

The Carnival Committee commissioned British artist Tina McCallan to oversee the project at the recent Carnival. One hundred Carnival visitors, mainly children, were invited to pick a square of a blown-up postcard of the original painting by artist Paul Klee, and then asked to try to copy it as closely as possible to the original onto a square on the canvas to recreate a copy of the famous painting.

The finished painting was framed and last week was presented to the Mayor of Fethiye, Behçet Saatci, by Carnival "head honcho" Peter Clark, for the benefit and enjoyment of the people of Fethiye area. It now hangs in the public area of the building where it can be seen by all.

Framed thank you certificates were also presented to the Mayor, Halime Ok (Fethiye Zabita), Dilek Dincer (Fetav Manager) and to the Fethiye Cultural Center

Paintings from the two previous Carnival projects hang in the Calis State Hospital and in FETAV office reception.
