We left Calis in fairly bright weather, certainly found it different as we progressed along the coast. Wind was very strong & we ended the day in pouring rain which in fact turned to a severe thunderstorm overnight.
Xanthos was "just another set of ruins" if you can get that blasé about such things. The surrounding area was mainly poly tunnels & a small village but unless you are into history then no shakes to see or not see.
Patara: (entrance fee 5tl per person). Again a nice few sets of ruins to see as you drive down the "new" road, I liked the fact that they were redoing the amphitheatre, would love to see a live concert there in better weather! The superb beach was deserted except for us but the wind was making a really horrid sandstorm, it stings on the face when facing the breeze! Managed to wake up the owner of the little cafe there & bribed him with 5tl for 2 x "Nescafe s" to warm us up. Again it's a better weather thing, bet it gets hellish there in the height of summer, not for me!
Kalkan was it's lovely self. I like this little town, the cobbled streets, whitewashed houses, nice harbour but not over commercialised, lots to see & do, easily spend 1/2 a day or more here.
Kaputas: On the main coast road towards Kas is a small beach, it's a steep climb down the steps & nothing on the beach but sand, ok if you like it quiet & not many others down there with you.
The road trip shows some lovely pics of the different colours of the sea, some of the pics are taken by Julie as I drove, had to concentrate due to the weather & wet roads!
