Do People Still go to Meis?
« on: May 04, 2013, 22:24:11 PM »
Now the visa hops are pretty much a thing of the past, I can imagine people taking a day trip to Rhodes but do boats still go to Meis? It was good fun popping over (I used to go even though I had residency :D ) but there isn't exactly much to do there - so did all the boats stop going?

Went for a day trip last September, with a couple of friends. on Meis Express's boat. There were a number of other day trippers on the boat & some with suitcases.

The only market of note still trading was the one in the back street & there were only 4ltrs Gordons gin & 2ltrs vodka in duty free, when the ferry arrived, but the 3 of us soon cleared the shelves! Worth the trip for the pork chop lunch alone  :P

Great stuff Liz - good to hear.

I was trying to remember all the odd things that we used to get excited about in the tiny shop in Meis. Not just pork products - Cadbury's drinking chocolate, evaporated milk, grapefruit juice...if you haven't lived it you'd never understand  :)

Rhodes was great too - vacuum packed ham and croissants from Lidl - Kerrygold cheddar, McVities chocolate digestives and salted butter from the big Spar across the road - great times indeed.

There are still boats going and we were just talking about this the other day on a recent visit to Kaş. It has to be worth going still just for a pleasant lunch and a few bottles of Duty Free and big bars of Cadbury's of milk chocolate.

I remember buying one of the most exciting things ever in Marks & Spencer in Rhodes Town - a decent corkscrew!! So good that I had to get one for Cenk & Olga next time we went there  :)

We go at least once a year, sometimes more. Love the laid back ambience, a long leisurely lunch with a couple of bottles of retsina,  make it well worth it. Oh, and the duty free and bacon of course...
