UK car to Turkey
« on: June 10, 2015, 06:14:37 AM »
I have been informed that, because I am a resident here, I am not allowed to bring a UK registered car into Turkey even for just one month (under a new law brought out this year).
Can anyone clarify this please?.

Must be a *very* recent law as I've heard nothing about it, and I still get regular legal updates on new legislation.  But as usual, happy to be proved wrong.

Saying that, there are restrictions on importing right hand drive cars on a permanent basis - is this maybe the usual ex pat arithmetic (2+2=3,365)?

If you are retired and can prove you claim a pension then you can bring in a UK car and keep it here for upto 2years before redoing the paper work.
Turkish Touring Ass web site gives you all the info. I know I have had a car here for 6 years.

There was no change in the law. There was a story about an expat who got turned away at a border and the story was going around that the law had changed.
What had really happened was that the paperwork was incorrect for the vehicle.
So, it's same as before 6 months, or longer if you fit the criteria as Mac says ( although I thought it was a year )

This might be old news or I might have been mis-informed, but I read on a Turkish Website , Ministry of Customs and Trade that expats can now bring in a foreign car for up to 24 months.
Seemingly this new law had just been implemented. The Website does have the option to select "English" but unfortunately says "Under Construction".

This is copied directly from the Everything Legal Turkey page on Facebook

Some news we have heard.

The passport police office in Fethiye has moved from behind Ege marina to Patlangic.

In the new year first time applicants for residency will not have to go to Mugla and be able to complete the procedures in Fethiye.

The rules regarding bring in a foreign car to Turkey are to be extended from 6 months to 2 years.

So some good positive steps their in our opinion.
