Calis characters
« on: October 27, 2017, 18:58:40 PM »
Just wondering as to the whereabouts of some of the familiar Calis characters. The one that comes to mind is the Turkish man who walked all the way from Gunlukbasi to Calis seafront every day pushing his barrow selling sweet pastries. He was always happy and smiling and always wore a pith helmet. We  called him Sapka and it  became a running joke trying to buy his helmet off hIm. We haven't seen him at all this year.

I didn't see the young boy with the scales in Calis this year?

Did the boy with the scales have much choice but to do it?

Was he not being "run" by whoever the local "beggar king" is?

A lad used to do similar throughout Fethiye's evening hotspots.

I remember Fethiye before the beggar king.

And McDunalds.

Perhaps I've read too much Dickens. I thought that all these young beggars were "run" by someone.

I could well be wrong and they are actually entrepreneurs in training.

We was wondering about the man with the pith helmet, he had a hooter on his cart and always made us smile. He used to walk past our house everyday, selling sweet simits.  We always wished he sold the bread ones.

We used to talk to Mustafa who was the guess your weight boy about 4 years ago. We saw him a couple of years ago and asked him why he wasn't doing it and he said it was because he was too old, he was about 14 then. I was also told that that is why there hasn't been one this year, I was also under the impression that they were doing it for someone else.
