Title: Revolut
Post by: stoop on September 09, 2018, 13:47:58 PM
Has anyone got a Revolut account?

My sons both have them and love them.

You can load it with £ and convert it to any currency at the bank exchange rate. Then just use it like a debit card to pay in the local currency.

Security wise it allows you to disclose your geolocation which then stops the card being used outside this area. You can also get alerts when it’s been used and just freeze the card. Every transaction is logged immediately.

I’m going to try mine in Portugal next month.

Only downside is £4.99 delivery for the card.

If anyone is interested please let me know as I think with two friends joining I can unlock the crypto currency aspect.

Yep. Got one a few weeks ago. All seems pretty good to me.

Didn't pay a delivery charge for it though !

Did you upgrade to premium? That’s the only one offering free delivery today.

Just checked my Cryptocurrencies and it's active without any need for friends input.

Strange as people have been complaining since June about the delivery charge. Maybe they had a free window when you got yours.

I’ll check the crypto again.

Looked at the crypto.
Their exchange is
1 btc to 6285.3 dollars.

On coinmarketcap, plenty exchanges listed, the rate you receive is
1btc to 6417.48 dollars

You lose 132 dollars per btc.

I always check with my two sons before I do anything with crypto. They have been at it for years.

Cheers for pointing that out though.

Try We Swap.  Better rates and ideal if all you want to do is withdraw lira at ATM’s and pay for meals etc.  No charge for the card either.

I have a Revolut Card as well, but have found the We Swap account offers a better deal.  Have used it a lot in Çaliş and Fethiye with no issues whatsoever.

This is what Martin Lewis says....

The top pick cards are Revolut and WeSwap. There’s much of a muchness between them. Both give best prevailing interbank exchange rates and can be used in euros, dollars and other currencies - though Revolut works in slightly more countries. If you want your money quickly Revolut won’t charge a fee, and is best for those withdrawing smaller amounts, under £500 a month. While WeSwap is best for those withdrawing larger amounts, over £200ish at a time. Otherwise there are fees.

For withdrawing £ abroad we use Nationwide which is cost free. I wanted Revolut to make it easier to pay in the local currency and get a very good rate as well.

TL coming in at 8.20 as I type. That’s decent.

I don't seem to be having a lot of success with my Revolut card. When I try to carry out a transaction I often get  a message " Sorry, something went wrong, Try again later". Anyone else getting the same ?

Just as a matter of interest. I've found out today that you can't deposit cheques into any type of Revolut account. I've had a repayment from those very nice people at HMRC to my business and have had to open another business account with Starling Bank instead.

Cheques? Do people still get them?

Actually I knew this and if I get one I just send it to one of my other accounts and then transfer the money electronically.

Even Tesco have stopped accepting cheques in their store now. Last one I got I had to post to their bank HO.

I changed my business account from a "high street bank" to Revolut because of the closure of the local branch. It was only today that I realised that they had no way of accepting credits by cheque. Starling Bank however will accept cheque credits by post.
