Oh Dear, so sad?? Wot a shame?? Ne'er mind tho', I'm sure some other 'Illustrious Persons' will be forming an ' Orderly Queue?' to be 'voted' in to fill their positions of trust, very soon.
Must get the new tenders in place before the start of next tourist season, eh??
Gordy.
-
ooh, read it on facebook and came on here to check as did not believe it.
Oh dear indeed.
-
Congratulations to those involved in bringing these criminals to justice. This prosecution demonstrates what a bit of courage & integrity can achieve [^].
Now, who's next [?] 8)
-
What did he do ?? :o
-
he got caught!
-
Sounds like cartel/price fixing type of activity. Before all the vultures swoop, he isn't in jail yet, a higher judge must agree to this sentance.
-
sentance? I dont agree
-
He doesn't have to agree to THIS sentence, although it would be nice if he could
-
Q: what happens to nicholas homes now? he is the senior partner isn't he?
-
Was he part of the Efes Price Cartel? If so it should be doubled!!!
-
there was no efes price cartel in Olu dinez stoop, the price was set by the Beledire..4tl for an efes...a fair price me thinks :)
-
Except when they charged me 6 lira at one place!!
-
Only in jest Brian ;-)
Olu dinez? Belidire?
LOL

-
in reply to scunner...you could very well be right...
saying that its
sad its come to this though...hes done a lot for tourissm and the Fethiye area in promoting the area...HE was elected by 75% of the votes cast at the last election, so some of the Turks at least thought he was a "good guy".......i guess i will be shot down in flames now 8)

The 4 lira was the minimum they were supposed to charge in the area, with no upper limit. The minimum prices were intended to help those renting premises so that they could compete fairly with those places that own their premises as far as I am aware, and most business owners in the area agreed with the pricing. As it happens it did not work out as some places were pricing lower anyway and no one was being checked on.
Re Brian the gardeners comments, I also feel that The mayor has done an awful lot for this area as regards tourism, schooling to name a couple of things. The news item at the top of this topic is a little hard to understand and unclear,so I really think we all need to get the full facts before we start condemning. As I think has been stated before, he is not acctually in prison at the moment, and is appealing so we will have to wait and see what happens. I am left worrying though what will happen to this area if we later get a mayor who is not committed to tourism.

But how did he get the votes? Mobile phone and electric bill paid for - for all that voted for him. Ask the LOCAL turks and they will confirm it. Also the vote numbers were increased by moving people into the area to LIVE at other peoples houses. One guy in Hisaronu was shown a picture by Jandarma of his 'wife' - but she was turkish and 'supposed' to be living at his address - his english wife was not best pleased!

Common place here I am afraid...and all the parties doing it. It happened in The General Election too, and a different party won that one...and let me assure you, mobile phone bills and electric bills were not paid for ALL who voted for them.

I'll make any neccesary apologies now but I am going to post this picture on how to quote someone else's post in your reply every time I see someone make a complete hash of it.
Also, there is no need to quote the person who posted immediately before you. Reply with quote is used (i) To reply to someone earlier in the thread than the last post or (ii) to highlight a small, specific part of a post that you are commenting on.
For standard posts use reply to topic rather than reply with quote and it will save everyone reading the same thing over and over again :)
Simples, lecture over ;)

[quotyquotequote What ? ? :D quottttttttttttt]
-
I've been quoted out of context!
-
Wow I didn't think a little joke would cause so much distress.
Some people need to lighten up a little really.
-
I must say I am liking the humourous (sp) turn this thread has taken!! :)
And sorry Scunner...I believe it was my reply which prompted you to give us the lesson on replying with quotes!! I don't usually make such a hash of it, and I am blaming it on my cold leaden head!!! :-\
-
It wasn't directed entirely at you, hopefully anyone reading it will see how it should be done :) The overuse of the reply with quote button is one of the few things that does irritate me. In fact, it is of more importance to me than some old boy going to jail for 15 years ;)
-
Whats your cold leaden head got to do with the price of Efes.??Please stay on topic.Unquote.
ect. [:o)]:D:D
-
back on original topic......will be interesting to see if he wins his appeal against his conviction and sentence.

Does any of you really know what this courtcase is about???? normally I spent my winters at home (yes scunner in Belgium ), but - and most of you do not live in the belediye Ölüdeniz, so they cannot be bothered - this could have serious impact on the working of the Belediye and thus on us, living there most of the year. We now have a mayor that has sympathy for foreigners, as his sister in law is english, but what wil happen if we get the same situation that has taken the upperhand in most of Turkey during the last few years? Maybe this is toooooo heavy for most of you ("let's keep it funny"), but Turkey is floating away from Europe, and more radical/extrimist parties are gaining grounds.... Have any of you ever been concerned about that? So, does any of you really know what this courtcase is about? If so, please share it.....because I really would like to know.
-
Below are the edited highlights of a post by "Dawne" on another local forum. It appears that the poster has some knowledge of the case although I couldn't guarantee it's veracity.
KY and his 'co-workers' have been found guilty of corruption in the form of fixing the awarding of the contract for the widening of the road from Hisaronu to Oludeniz 2 years ago. A good deal of the evidence collected was via recorded phone conversations. When found guilty the perps were given 7 days to lodge an appeal. The matter is now with the Supreme Court. It is expected that the Supreme Court judgement could take between 6 - 12 months. In the meantime the 'word on the street' here is that KY, within the next month, will most probably be suspended from his official duties pending a final judgement. The contract was for a government funded job and therefore the crimes committed are crimes against the government and consequently considered to be crimes against the 'people', hence the length of the sentences. From what I am told, the actual time likely to be served (if it comes to that) will be one-third of the sentence i.e. 5 years.
-
thanks kayakoyuoldboy, could you give me the details of that other forum, where this topic was discussed?
-
I've emailed you.

Yes I know you are in Belgium - I told you that before you told me. Summers at your hotel/restaurant in Turkey, winters in Belgium pretending to be one of the restaurant's happy customers.
What's this topic about again? Ah yes, fraud and deception. Fitting.
-
hard but fair
-
To the point
-
Does anyone know if any of the defendants actually appealed their sentences?
-
keremettin did appeal.....will take about 6 months or more for hearing, i understand
-
Who is in charge of the Belediye at the moment?

Is this the same "PERSON" who authorised the building of the new Dolphinarium in Hisaronou?
Does he own NICHOLAS HOMES?
Is he the building contractor for the 22 x 11 x 4m pond these 2 poor dolphins are to live in?
If he he if you know anyone who is thinking about buying a Nicholas Home tell them don't
BUOYCOTT BUOYCOTT BUOYCOTT NICHOLAS HOMES
[:(!][:(!][:(!]
-
Yes, he is still the mayor and his case has gone to appeal but it is going to take 2 years to be resolved. It is likely that he will do a maximum of 4 years and the locals think he may not go to jail at all.
-
So now he is free to pass whatever planning permission he can get away with, even the disgusting POND for the dolphins.
Is it Nicholas Construction or whatever the spin off from Nicholas homes is that the Mayor owns is building this disgusting excuse for therapy!!
He has already been done, confined (SUPPOSEDLY)to house arrest???????????????? Coming up soon for appeal!!
Sorry live in the real world SEND HIM DOWN!!
Only thing I can say is BUOYCOTT HIS COMPANY "NICHOLAS HOMES" and send him where he belongs!!
-
i am sickened by the thought of this dolphin project.
but also aware that these people are only supplying a potential demand from the mainly british public.
-
Firstly has nicholas Homes involvement been proved ? as already we have the hang um high Cheers post. Secondly turkish rumour mill is well known for getting the facts wrong, who can remember the boat yard was to move etc.
last but by no means least is who will own and operate this if it is to be built. deal in facts don't run around like headless chickens.
-
Whatever happened with this as I see that he has now been voted Major of the Year. Interesting that you can go from 15 years in prison to best major in the whole country in 4 short years.

Has he been called up to do his National Service again ?? ??? Could be a crafty scheme to get out of the 'prison sentence' , and receive a "Major's" wages !! :o ;) ;)
