I know nobody knows what's definitely happening and it's all up in the air and rumours fly...... but on one of the Facebook groups I'm a member of, somebody has said that when the new residency application laws come in next April, it will cost £7k a year! :o
I'm hoping if that figure is involved, it's the amount you need to show you have to support yourself rather than an upfront cost.
If not - then I need to get my finger out and make sure we've got somewhere to live and can apply before the changes come into effect.

And Keith - I know, generally, but sometimes there can be useful info on there. This was in a group I've only just joined but looking at some of the posts I'm not sure I'll be staying long! ;D

A bit brief in reply earlier - the sentiment stands but obviously not all FB group comments are rubbish or made by idiots. But it's amazing how one person can roll a hand grenade into the middle, then quietly exit leaving mass panic behind them.

I don't think even the Turkish Government are that stupid/greedy, they wouldn't get many takers at £7K for a one year residency permit. But then again maybe they don't want us ordinary bods..... just very rich incomers.

This article is quite informative about proposed changes to Residency rules 2014 - if correct:
"Confirmed from the British Consulate regarding the new rules and procedures highlighted below:-
Applying for a Turkish Residency Permit after the 1st of April 2014
First time applicants:
All first time applicants wishing to apply for a Turkish Residency Permit need to apply the Turkish Consulate in the UK (or if you are not from the UK you need to apply the Turkish Consulate in your own country)
Please note: All UK applicants need to hold a valid UK passport with at least sixty days beyond the duration of the requested residence permit.
For example, when applying for a 12-month Turkish residency permit; your UK passport needs to be valid for at least 14 months.
Required Documentation
- Not yet received confirmation regarding which documentation is required. (Updates to follow)
The list below is what is currently required when applying for a Turkish residency permit
• A valid passport with photocopies of the last entry stamp and details page
• Five recent passport-sized photographs
• Proof of address (tapu or rental agreement)
• Bank statement from a Turkish bank proving you are in good financial standing (this varies from place to place. The general rule is that you must have 250 euros in for each month you intend to register in Turkey. For example, a 12-month permit, you will need 3000 euros)
You may also need to provide, where applicable:
Evidence of your marriage (if married to a Turkish national)
How long does the process take?
Applications will be finalised at the latest within 90 days
Exceptions whereby the applicant could apply in Turkey:-
Requests by parents (holding a valid Turkish residence permit) for any children born in Turkey

Renewing your Residency Permit (Renewals can be made in Turkey)
As of the 1st of April 2014, you can no longer apply for a 3 or 5 year residency permit. Instead all applications are renewed on a yearly basis.
Please note: At this time there are NO exceptions. For example, If you own a business in Turkey or are married to a Turkish Citizen the maximum amount of Residency you can apply for is 12 months.
Please note: The handling of Residency Permits is changing and will no longer be the responsibility of the Police Foreigners Department. Instead this will pass to the Interior Ministry’s General Directorate of Migration Office.

Applicants applying for an 8 year Residency Permit (Application can be made in Turkey)
As of the 1st of April 2014, those who have resided in Turkey with a residence permit uninterruptedly for at least eight years will be granted a permanent residence permit.
Interruption to the residency
If you stay outside of Turkey for a period of more than 6 months within 1 year or more within the last 5 years. This will be classed as 'interruptions' and will not be counted towards your 8-year residency permit.
Also any residency previously acquired before the interruptions will not be counted.
Conditions for an 8 year residence permit
• You must have resided in Turkey (with a residence permit) uninterruptedly for at least eight years.
• You must not have benefited from any kind of social assistance from the State for the past three years.
• You must possess sufficient and regular resources to maintain himself/herself.
• You must have valid medical insurance.
• You must not constitute a threat to public order or security.
Successful applicants who are granted a long term residence permit shall benefit from the same rights as a Turkish citizen with the exception of provisions in special legislation as well as the rights regarding:
Meaning you will be Exempt from:-
a) Compulsory military service
b) The right to elect and be elected,
c) Employment in public institutions,
d) Exemption from taxes in importing vehicles
Please note: Your long term residency permit may be cancelled if you stay outside of Turkey uninterruptedly for more than 12 months with the exception of 1) health 2) study.

Renewing or applying for your Turkish Residence Permit before April 2014
All foreigners can submit Residence Permit applications to their local police stations. (Foreigner police departments) and follow current procedures.
