Title: Traditional Christmas presents
Post by: suzyq on December 12, 2017, 10:06:33 AM
I was watching Coronation Street with a friend last night (I know), and soap on a rope was mentioned and we both remembered that this used to be a popular present!! My mum always used to buy us a chocolate orange and I have continued this tradition with my family. What is a tradition in your family or are there any presents you remember that you always got at christmas, whether you wanted them or not.

I always give my family a 'tree' present. It's supposed to be a surprise, but everyone knows it is new pyjamas on Christmas Eve. : :)
My mum always gave us a small snowball (drink) on Christmas Eve, and I have continued this tradition.
Ever since I was married, I have made Chinese ribs on Christmas Eve and continue to do so.

Here's a phrase I haven't heard for a long time. I suppose once it was the proverbial traditional Christmas present. If you did a favour for someone during the year they would thank you by saying: "I'll give you a blood orange for Christmas".

My old man used to say "Behave, and I'll show you a pound at Christmas".

I never got a present on Xmas Eve, thats it, confirmed I had an underprivileged childhood!! Always got a box of embroidered hankies with my initial on them and bath cubes, which progressed to vile smelly bath salts.  We always went to the pub on Christmas Eve, a tradition that has never been broken, even here!!

Chocolate Smokers’ Sets, with cigarettes and pipes, made out of the most awful chocolate, which had a weird smell!

Bath cubes never dissolved properly and you ended up with it scouring your bottom.
