Title: Explaining a travel visa
Post by: arbitro3493 on May 06, 2019, 17:40:20 PM
Hello,

I've caught myself up explaining a travel visa to a friend - now feel I am not clear myself on the rules.  Stupid I know

So a visa permits you to enter up to 90 days in any 180 day period with multiple visits.  Am I right in thinking the 180 day period doesn't just last the visa date (start to end), the 180 days goes back from when you last exited?

So for example a friend bought a Visa in December.  They stayed 7 days.  They then visited in April for two weeks (14 days).  They are then due back next week for 7 days.  I believe their visa then runs out.  They then intend to go in July and will need a new visa.

How does the 90 days get added up? especially with new visa being bought?

When you get your visa it has a start date and an expiry date that will be your 180 days

It is like KKOB says it’s not that simple!
You need to look at the visa as something that is allowing you to enter Turkey and stay here legally.
You can have two visas that overlap but need to enter and exit on same visa.
You need to always count BACKWARDS from every departure date of each visit you have not exceeded 90 days in ANY 180 day period,
Iv become quite expert on this as I have residency but my husband doesn’t therefore before I book his trips I have to count up a new 180 day period every trip...
Hope I have not confused you further!

No sarcasm intended. The 180 day rule is not as simple as it sounds. You have to make allowances for "Counting Back" to any previous visit to Turkey.

Many thanks - this is why I checked.

So in short. You count back from the day you have exited, as long as you have not stayed 90 days in that 180 period and you have a valid visa - your good?

I’ve never understood it.

We have always bought one visa for one trip so no mathematics required. However, for the first time ever our next visit is completed 2 days before our180 day visa is up.

What could possibly go wrong...

We used this calculator when working out the days for our extended stay a couple of years ago.
