Here are some of my favourite sporting moments...

1973 Gareth Edwards opening minute try for the Barbarians v The All Blacks. A truly memorable team effort full of individual brilliance - never to be repeated.

1980 Fourth set tie break (18-16) Bjorn Borg v John McEnroe. A fixture of sporting excellence and true mental aptitude

2002 Scotland's women curlers win Olympic Gold Medal. A spell binding finale.

1990 David Sole's leads the Scottish Rugby team to a famous Grand Slam win over the auld enemy. End of

2006 Tiger Woods acknowledges Darren Clarke at the 2006 Ryder Cup. One the greatest sportsman of all time shows that there are more important things in life than winning or losing a golf match

1982 Marco Tardelli of Italy sets of on the greatest goal celebration of all time. Magical

1969 Jack Nicklaus concedes a two foot put to Tony Jacklin to tie the Ryder Cup. A great moment of sportsmanship.

1978 Archie Gemmill puts Scotland in dream land. Of course it wasn't to be but later voted Greatest World Cup Goal of all time

1975 Mohammad Ali v Joe Frazier in the Thrilla in Manilla. Two great sportsman risking more than a sporting title. Brutal

1985 Dennis Taylor eventually defeats Steve Davis. Millions riveted to their televisions to watch the underdog prevail in a hypnotic climax.

Another three to add;
Jimmy Montgomery's save in the FA cup final of 1973 which enabled Sunderland to win the FA Cup against the, then, almighty Leeds.

Ali v George Forman, tactics and skill unsurpassed by Ali to beat Forman

Gazza's magnificent goal against the auld enemy in Euro 96

What about Liam Brady scoring the last minute goal in the cup final,
because he was too bloody knackered to play another thirty minutes,
was that against Man u?

Thats the one! 1979, arsenal 2-0 up, Man u getting back to 2-2, Brady fed Rix on the left wing who provided Sunderland with the cross to make it 3-2, remember it well for a Chelsea supporter.

Lindford Christie winning Olympic gold in the 100 metres. Tension and concentration that you really could cut with a knife.

Don't see why not - four women (who happen to be Scottish) win the first Gold Medals for 18 years with a perfect shot.

I was at a quiz that night when it was televised and the whole thing came to a halt as everyone there (and millions elsewhere) were transfixed by the climax. Great sport isn't confined to football, rugby, cricket etc.
