Hi Peter and Jacquie, welcome to the forum. You will certainly find more sun and less stress in Turkey than in UK. Hope you have a good visit in April.

welcome to the forum hope you find what you are looking for some good advise has been given to you already, but just a bit more do not do anything in turkey that you would not do in england when buying and selling a house and don't part with your money until you have to beware there are good agents like interturk in calis and there are real rip off and liar's like taurean properties in calis as well so beware!!

But good luck

Welcome to the forum. One of the best pieces of advice I have heard on the Forum is to come out and rent for a while. There is no hurry to buy and prices are not going to skyrocket in a short period of time. That way you not only have the chance to explore the many areas but also get a feel for what its like living here before you invest too much.

Many thanks for your warm welcome and words of advice!

Several people have warned about "sharks", though they're likely to go hungry in our case, on this trip at least.  We're not planning to spend much time with agents this time around, since we don't want to waste their time at this stage.

Calis/Fethiye is obviously going to be a major focus of our visit.  If anyone has any suggestions for a good place to get a beer & a bite and maybe bump into some of you when we're in the area, please let me know.

welcome peter/jacquie
you seem to have your feet on the ground and know what you are looking for, which is a good start.
Before coming do a lot of searching on the internet to get a feel for the prices and areas.Note a few down which catch your eye then do visits while you are over.
You sound as though you will be driving so travel round until you find the right area, when you are both
agreed on an area then spend lots of time around the area choosen while you are over and when you get home use the internet.
Dont buy on instinct decide then make more visits to be sure,do this at different times of the day so  you can see the place at all times, night and day, busy and quiet.
Then if you are completely sure about the area and the property, start the haggling.
good luck hope you find what you are both looking for

Sounds like you are going about it in the right way - there will come a time when a decision will need to be made. Too much delay can mean extra costs and too much rushing decision making can mean extra costs as well!
Most people know when and whether it is right for them and once this is clear in your own mind things start to take their own rhythm. Best of luck with it and welcome to CBF
